Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 could be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One alongside the PS5 and Series X/S versions, according to recently leaked information. While this may be disappointing for those hoping to see a leap in graphical fidelity in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it will at least come as reassuring news for players on legacy consoles who have yet to upgrade to current-gen hardware.
After being heavily rumored for several months, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the next mainline installment in Activision’s annualized franchise, was officially unveiled by Microsoft on May 23, 2024. The reveal of the game, which was initially referred to as Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War in early reports, was kicked off with a major marketing campaign that involved cryptic teaser trailers, fictional news reports, and front-page advertisements on flagship newspaper outlets. Black Ops 6 is developed by longtime CoD developer Treyarch, whose last game was 2020’s Black Ops: Gulf War, which was made in collaboration with sister studio Raven Software. Activision has yet to officially unveil much information about the title, but certain details about the game’s release might have recently leaked.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Leaks Possible Loading Screen and Menu
A new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 leak reveals images of the loading screen and menu that may be featured in the upcoming FPS.
As shown in an image shared on Twitter via CharlieIntel, the pre-order listings in GameStop’s database for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 appeared to have leaked online. The listings in question reveal that the game will be available to purchase on PS4, in addition to the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions. Insider Gaming subsequently corroborated this leak with a report of their own, confirming that the next Call of Duty: Black Ops game is set to release on both PS4 and Xbox One. As to why this is the case, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claims in a tweet of his that developer sources told him “the franchise doesn’t necessarily need to move away from past-generation” consoles thanks to the Call of Duty HQ.
Henderson also states that, despite Microsoft signing a 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to its consoles, Black Ops 6 will not release on the Switch, likely due to the fact that the console isn’t powerful enough to handle such a game. The Nintendo Switch 2, which is rumored to release in early 2025, will reportedly receive Call of Duty games instead, and that could include a Black Ops 6 port at some point.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Releasing on Last-Gen Consoles Could Be a Mixed Bag For Fans
Black Ops 6 releasing on last-gen consoles might be considered bad news by some fans of the series, as they may believe Call of Duty is being held back by PS4 and Xbox One. On the other hand, the millions of gamers still playing on last-gen consoles will likely be relieved to know that they won’t have to upgrade to next-gen hardware in order to play the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Though it may not be a large issue in the big scheme of things, Activision’s alleged decision to release Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on PS4 and Xbox One will likely be met with divided reactions among fans of the series.
