Big changes are being made in this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with developer Treyarch bringing back traditional scorestreaks to multiplayer. Along with the return of scorestreaks, Black Ops 6 will also bring back several other fan-favorite mechanics for both multiplayer and zombies.
While there’s plenty of fun and excitement to be found in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, fans are eagerly anticipating Treyarch’s newest entry in the franchise, Black Ops 6. While Call of Duty games have been positioned on a yearly basis for many years at this point, it seems as though Black Ops 6 will be a defining moment for Activision’s decades-old FPS franchise. It’s been four years since Treyarch developed its own Call of Duty title, with Black Ops 6 bringing the brand back to its roots, both literally and figuratively. Alongside the return of several core Call of Duty features, Black Ops 6 also reportedly marks the return of traditional scorestreaks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Beta Approach is a Big Win For Microsoft
Many questions existed over how Microsoft would handle its first CoD title, and the details of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Beta are very promising.
According to CharlieIntel, Treyarch is overhauling the way scorestreaks work in Black Ops 6, noting that the studio is abandoning the system used in 2020’s Cold War. Just like previous Call of Duty titles, Cold War players needed to rack up a certain amount of points in order to call in weapons, items, and other scorestreaks. However, these points were not lost upon death, marking a fundamental change to how the system worked and was used by players.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Brings Back Traditional Scorestreaks
This change to Call of Duty’s scorestreak system was incredibly controversial, so much so that Black Ops 6 is giving back the traditional Call of Duty scorestreak system to players. Other traditional features, like Call of Duty‘s fan-favorite theater mode, are rumored to return to Black Ops 6 as well, indicating Treyarch is pulling out all the stops to entice as many players, both old and new, to join in on the action.
More information regarding Black Ops 6 was revealed during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase and the recent Black Ops Direct, with Treyarch confirming several longstanding rumors about the game’s Zombies mode. Alongside the return of classic multiplayer features, Treyarch also confirmed that its popular Zombies mode will be returning to round-based maps in Black Ops 6. Black Ops 6‘s Zombies mode will feature a new dedicated squad and two full-length maps to play on release day. In addition, Treyarch and Microsoft also revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on release day, marking another big shift for Activison’s legendary FPS franchise.
