The next Call of Duty, rumored to be Modern Warfare 4, is slated to come out sometime in October 2026, according to one leaker. A new game in the long-running shooter series is nothing surprising, given the franchise’s annual release cadence, but specific details, like what exactly the game is and when in 2026 it’ll release, remain unconfirmed. An official Call of Duty reveal will undoubtedly come later in the year, but fans may have gotten an early look at when to expect the next title.
While the CoD franchise has a reputation for predictability, thanks to regular releases and largely similar gameplay between modern entries, there are rumors of some big upcoming changes. One leaker suggested that Call of Duty may abandon its pattern of annual releases, and there’s talk of splitting off the ever-popular Zombies mode as a standalone game. None of this is confirmed for now, and Activision has even denied some of the rumblings, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning.
Rumor: Call of Duty Leak Reveals Surprise Plans for 2027 Game
A new leak from a trusted industry insider reveals some surprising plans for the future of Call of Duty, as 2027 may mark a major shift in the series.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is Reportedly Releasing on a Friday in October 2026
CharlieIntel, who has a history of accurate CoD leaks, has claimed Modern Warfare 4 will release in October 2026. When pressed for specifics, the leaker only said it would be one of the five Fridays in the month, which does not narrow things down too much, as a weekend launch is almost a given for a major multiplayer game. This also comes just one day after CharleIntel reposted rumors that Call of Duty will skip Xbox Game Pass this year, but regardless of the title’s Game Pass status, an October release may seem like a small detail but is interesting in light of another big Fall 2026 launch.
Take-Two Interactive has doubled down on GTA 6‘s November 2026 release date, and gamers and industry insiders alike expect that launch to be one of, if not the biggest, of the year. That could be why Modern Warfare 4 is reportedly eyeing an October release instead of coming out in November like 2025s Black Ops 7 did, but on the other hand, one month of separation is not a lot. It’s likely more advantageous to beat GTA 6 to the punch than to come out a month after it, but giving players just a few weeks to enjoy the game before Rockstar’s behemoth takes over the market does feel like a slight risk.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that CharlieIntel’s claims of an October release are accurate. The weeks before GTA 6‘s launch may also be plenty for Activision to make enough off of Modern Warfare 4‘s initial sales before audiences get distracted by Grand Theft Auto for a time. Still, if rumors that Modern Warfare 4 will largely copy MW2‘s polarizing multiplayer are true, it could be interesting to see how things play out with GTA looming on the horizon. For the time being, though, it’s difficult to say anything with much certainty.

Looking beyond the release date, there are rumors that Modern Warfare 4 will take place in the Korean peninsula, potentially involving conflict between North and South Korea. It’s also reported that the DMZ mode will appear in the game, which would make sense in light of how extraction shooters like ARC Raiders and Escape From Tarkov have blown up recently. All in all, it seems there could be a mix of exciting developments and potential disappointments in store for the next Call of Duty, so fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more.
