Halo: Campaign Evolved has annoyed some franchise fans with the way it’s handling the titular Halo ring, specifically Installation 04, where the game actually takes place. A full-on remake of the classic Bungie original, Halo: Campaign Evolved represents a true reinterpretation of one of the most famous and beloved first-person shooters of all time, and its handling of the source material has been subjected to a great deal of scrutiny.
Due to launch on July 28, Halo: Campaign Evolved features three all-new missions and runs on Unreal Engine 5, making it a must-play experience for anyone even remotely interested in Halo at large. Though the Master Chief Collection games were reasonably visually compelling, as was Halo Infinite, Campaign Evolved takes things to a whole new level while at the same time running the risk of looking just uncanny enough for fans to dislike it. The talk surrounding Installation 04 proves as much, in fact.

Halo Studios confirms a few disappointing pieces of Halo: Campaign Evolved news.
Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Installation 04 Looks Slightly off in Main Menu
Halo: Campaign Evolved‘s main menu prominently shows off its main setting, the Halo ring Installation 04, but it looks ever-so-slightly off due to its perspective and what looks like an ultrawide or fish-eye lens style effect. “Feels like the sense of scale isn’t being portrayed properly,” says Hajjakk on the Halo subreddit. Most importantly, Installation 04 absolutely looks the part in the game’s CGI cutscenes, but it’s too well-lit and oddly proportioned in the main menu, making it look far less prominent and impressive than it actually is. While the nuances of a game’s menu won’t affect the future of Halo, it’s still a point of contention for those who enjoyed just how ridiculously large Installation 04 is actually supposed to be.
The idea that the game’s main menu looks slightly off is hardly the worst critique Halo: Campaign Evolved has received ahead of its release, but it’s an issue all the same that could be easily resolved by taking a different focal length screenshot of the ring. There’s also the fact that a mishandling of iconic Halo imagery, slight as it may be, could make fans wonder what other aspects of the franchise have also been fumbled. Most players commenting on the issue understand that it’s only the main menu that shows the ring from such an odd perspective, however.
The good news, of course, is that everything points to Halo: Campaign Evolved being a true and proper remake of the Bungie classic. Whereas the Master Chief Collection remaster offered a substantial, if imperfect, lick of paint to the original title, Campaign Evolved comes with a comprehensive suite of gameplay upgrades and map updates. Perhaps most importantly, Halo: Campaign Evolved‘s prequel missions should add even more depth to an already content-heavy experience, with the obvious caveat that the game is limited to co-op multiplayer only.

It won’t be too long before dedicated players get access to the game, either. Halo: Campaign Evolved‘s advanced access period kicks off on July 23, with the full release due for July 28. Those who don’t have an interest in replaying the campaign mode, no matter how fancy it looks, will need to wait longer to see what sort of plans Halo Studios has for the franchise’s PvP modes. Given that there’s absolutely no competitive multiplayer to be found in Halo: Campaign Evolved, and there are no plans for comprehensive post-launch content support, Xbox must have something else up its sleeve.
