Capcom Could Be Bringing Back Nearly 30 Classic Games

Capcom may be preparing to bring back nearly 30 classic games, with a new discovery suggesting the publisher is developing another retro collection. After a year of new hits, Capcom may be ready to introduce some of its older titles to new fans.

For the past several years, Capcom has been busy making its older games more accessible on modern consoles through collections and re-releases. In 2021, the Capcom Arcade Stadium games brought dozens of arcade classics to modern platforms, while Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in 2025 revived favorites like Power Stone and Capcom vs. SNK 2. More recently, Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection brought another relatively overlooked part of the publisher’s history back into the spotlight to a warm reception. Capcom has already shown it values keeping its older games available, and the latest finding suggests the company may be preparing to dig even deeper into its enormous library.

Capcom Wants to Turn RE Engine Into AI Generation

Capcom is taking a new approach with its popular RE Engine, aiming to transform the engine into a tool to use AI within game development.

An October 27 report by South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee has rated 29 classic Capcom titles, fueling speculation that another compilation could be on the way. Interestingly, every game on the list previously received a full home console release, with some originating exclusively on systems like the NES and SNES. That could mean fans would get a collection of vintage console releases and ports, which marks a shift from the arcade modernizations Capcom has been releasing recently. However, the publisher hasn’t announced any such project, and the ratings don’t confirm whether these titles are being prepared for one collection, multiple releases, or something else entirely.

Even a quick look at this list reveals some of the biggest names that helped establish Capcom as one of gaming’s most influential developers of the NES/SNES era. The original Mega Man games defined an entire generation of action platformers, while Mega Man X successfully brought the formula into the 16-bit era. Meanwhile, the landmark Street Fighter 2 helped popularize competitive fighting games, and Final Fight became one of the defining side-scrolling beat ’em ups of its time. Including Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire 2 is also bound to raise some eyebrows, especially since the RPG franchise has been largely dormant for years as fans keep asking for some sort of re-release.

However, some of the most interesting inclusions are the games that never became enormous hits. 1994’s Demon’s Crest is an atmospheric SNES action platformer starring Firebrand, and it developed a devoted cult following despite its modest commercial success. Gargoyle’s Quest 2 offered another adventure starring that same main character, while Mighty Final Fight reimagined its beat-em-up predecessor with cartoonish visuals and RPG-inspired progression. There’s even Mega Man Soccer, a wacky spinoff that turned Capcom’s robotic characters into full-on soccer players.

While developing retro collections still requires investment, they seem to offer Capcom another way to create financial hits using games it already owns, without the enormous expense of an entirely new AAA production. The company reported its ninth consecutive year of record profits for the fiscal year ending March 2026, with newer games like Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword helping sustain its momentum. However, its latest financial results also emphasize the importance of catalog sales, with older releases continuing to generate substantial revenue alongside new blockbusters. The publisher is already succeeding with its modern blockbusters, and another collection could prove that even some of its most forgotten games may still have an audience.
