Resident Evil 3 comes to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, and Capcom has revealed footage of the game running on the system ahead of launch. A remake of the similarly titled 1999 game, Resident Evil 3 was released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020. Nintendo fans weren’t completely forgotten, as the game received a cloud version on the original Switch in 2022. Cloud versions of games allowed fans to experience titles that otherwise might be too powerful to play on Switch, but with the caveat that players must be in an area with a stable internet connection.

Following the release of Nintendo Switch 2, Capcom has made it a priority to bring several Resident Evil games to the system natively. This means players don’t have to worry about an internet connection after the initial download. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village launched on the system earlier this year, alongside Resident Evil Requiem. Three Resident Evil games are coming to Switch 2 on October 16 — Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 —and will include all previously released DLC, as well.

Ahead of the launch of Resident Evil 3 on Nintendo Switch 2, Capcom shared new gameplay footage on Twitter. Resident Evil 3 takes place in Raccoon City, putting players in the role of returning hero Jill Valentine. The newly released footage shows Jill as she attempts to escape from the dreaded Nemesis, evading the creature as she passes ruined storefronts in the decimated city. The gameplay should give players a better idea of what to expect on Switch 2 and how this will stack up with the versions released on other platforms.

All three of the Resident Evil remakes are being released digitally, with physical versions being offered in January. Capcom has not revealed full details, but the physical versions are expected to be Game-Key Cards, as opposed to actual cartridges. Switch 2’s Game-Key Cards have been controversial, but Capcom has leaned on them for games like Resident Evil Requiem, Street Fighter 6, and Pragmata. It seems likely that will continue, at least for the foreseeable future.

The Resident Evil remakes have been critically and commercially successful over the last few years. It remains to be seen how the Switch 2 versions will be received, but the Resident Evil 3 footage suggests that Capcom hasn’t had to make many compromises to bring the game to Nintendo’s system. That’s very good news for anyone who has been looking for an opportunity to play these games on a portable platform.

Capcom’s increased focus on Nintendo will continue in 2027. The company has already confirmed that Resident Evil: Veronica will come to Switch 2, arriving the same day as other platforms. The game will serve as the next remake in the series, retelling the events from Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which was originally released on Dreamcast in 2000. Little information has been revealed about the remake so far, and a specific release window has not been announced. That suggests the game could be arriving sometime later in 2027, but fans will have to wait to see what Capcom has planned.
