CDPR Gives New Official Statement on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2

CDPR Gives New Official Statement on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2

Even though The Witcher 3 is 11 years old, it clearly dominated Gamescom 2026 with the Songs of the Past DLC and the announced remaster, but it seems developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) wanted to give fans updates on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 as well. The Witcher 3‘s new content is obviously the company’s main public focus right now, although development is led by Fool’s Theory, but being transparent goes a long way.

It seems, at least in small doses, that CDPR has learned a lot from the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. One of the biggest reasons for its terrible launch and so many delays is that the company wasn’t being transparent about where the game was at, and as a lesson learned, CD Projekt Red has periodically given development resource allocation updates over the past few years. Now, fans know how many folks are actively working on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 as of this moment.

New CD Projekt Red Game Teased (And Not The Witcher 4 or Cyberpunk 2)

Alongside The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, CD Projekt RED’s mysterious new IP called Project Hadar unintentionally teases new gameplay details.

The Witcher 4 Development Continues, Cyberpunk 2 is Slowing Ramping Up

What’s better, CDPR also shared numbers from April, so the context is even more transparent. At the end of April, CDPR listed 975 active developers working on various projects: The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2, Project Sirius, Project Hadar, and various other needs and services. The Witcher 4 had 513 developers at the time, while Cyberpunk 2 had 163. Since then, CDPR has hired 70 developers, with The Witcher 4 picking up 6 more, Cyberpunk 2 picking up 21 more, and other hires being allocated elsewhere. What this suggests is that The Witcher 4‘s development progress remains strong, while Cyberpunk 2 is slowly ramping up (likely on an as-needed basis).

These numbers are mostly hopeful and make perfect sense. The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release date, meaning fans get The Witcher 3 Remastered in 2026, Songs of the Past in 2027, and The Witcher 4 in 2028. Cyberpunk 2 will follow some time after that, but it remains earlier in development and further away from release. Project Sirius is believed to be a Witcher 3 multiplayer spin-off, which is being co-developed alongside Molasses Flood, and it seems the reported layoffs with Molasses Flood are not reflected in this graph. Project Hadar is believed to be a brand-new IP coming out of CDPR, with very little known about it. Sirius and Hadar are way further out, and that’s reflected in the resource allocation.

Previously it was reported that CDPR wants to get The Witcher 4, The Witcher 5, and The Witcher 6 out within six years of each other. In other words, the timeline for this new Witcher trilogy may be 2030 for The Witcher 5 and 2032 for The Witcher 6. Unfortunately, that is quite aggressive, but it’ll be interesting to see how each game iterates on the developers’ work.

Cyberpunk 2‘s exact development/release timeline remains unknown, although it is in pre-production at least, but it’s certainly going to be after The Witcher 4. Perhaps that means a 2029-2031 window, depending on what the company’s resource allocation looks like within the next couple of years.
