Clair Obscur Cast Wants A New Category At The Game Awards

The cast of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is rallying for a new category to be added to The Game Awards, looking to celebrate the work of motion-capture artists. The new RPG from French developer Sandfall Interactive has been one of the biggest breakout hits of the year, seeing glowing reviews and even already capturing some end-of-year awards. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept through the Golden Joystick Awards in November, capturing a staggering six different awards including the award show’s highest honor with the title of “Ultimate Game of the Year.” Now, Clair Obscur may bring home some big hardware from another ceremony.

The recently revealed nominations for the 2025 Game Awards have already seen an impressive showing from Clair Obscur, with the French-developed RPG at the head of the class. Clair Obscur stands as one of six games up for the most prestigious honor given out by The Game Awards, receiving a nomination for “Game of the Year” among others. Clair Obscur captured the most nominations of any game eligible for the Game Awards ceremony by a considerable margin, with a staggering 12 nominations across other categories like “Best Game Direction” and “Best Indie Game.” However, the cast of Clair Obscur is now petitioning for another new award category.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Just Got Snubbed for a Big Award

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2025, but it’s just been snubbed for a very big award.

Clair Obscur Cast Wants a Motion Capture Game Awards Category

During a recent interview with VGC, multiple members of Clair Obscur‘s cast called for a new Game Awards category. Lead actress Jennifer English was among the cast members calling for The Game Awards to add an award honoring motion capture artists. English and fellow cast members Shala Nyx, Devora Wilde, and Aliona Baranova called on The Game Awards to celebrate the hard work done by motion capture artists, while urging more studios to release behind-the-scenes footage of motion capture. Clair Obscur lead actor Charlie Cox also previously highlighted the work done by the motion capture artist for male lead Gustave, praising performer Maxence Carzole.

The Clair Obscur cast’s push for a motion-capture category was not the only new honor the cast asked The Game Awards to add. Supporting characters were a major topic of discussion for the cast members, urging The Game Awards to recognize those actors and characters beyond the gaming world’s main stars. Actress Devora Wilde was particularly in favor of the expansion of The Game Awards to include supporting cast members, with the actress playing the supporting character Clea within Clair Obscur. Wilde also previously provided the voice of a main cast member for another major RPG, playing the role of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Lae’zel.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Could Be A Favorite for Both Proposed Categories

The addition of a motion capture category to The Game Awards could have easily seen Clair Obscur secure yet another nomination. Clair Obscur has seen heavy praise amongst both fans and critics for its motion-capture work, particularly framing the expressiveness of the main cast. Supporting character inclusions would also likely be a major boon for Clair Obscur‘s award prospects, with the cast including gaming mainstays like Andy Serkis, Shala Nyx, and Ben Starr, among plenty of other recognizable names.

Clair Obscur‘s potential domination at the upcoming Game Awards looks to follow in the footsteps of another breakout hit RPG. Clair Obscur has seen a plethora of positive comparisons to 2023’s Baldur’s Gate 3, with the Larian Studios Dungeons & Dragons RPG seeing similar success. Sandfall Interactive’s breakout hit also features several actors and actresses who starred in Baldur’s Gate 3, with the previously-mentioned Devora Wilde’s Lae’zel appearing alongside Jennifer English’s Shadowheart within the main cast. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 served as one of the biggest stories of 2025 in the gaming world and looks to solidify its legacy with a successful showing at The Game Awards.
