Classic Assassin’s Creed Games Could Be Getting Big Upgrades

Classic Assassin’s Creed Games Could Be Getting Big Upgrades

Several classic Assassin’s Creed games could receive 60 FPS updates in the future, following the recent lead of the Far Cry series. This kind of update would go a long way to improving the experience of some of the older Assassin’s Creed titles when played on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

In the past, Ubisoft has provided support for the Assassin’s Creed games long after their initial release dates. Over the years, Ubisoft has added Steam achievements to various Assassin’s Creed games, even though the games initially launched without Steam-specific features. And while it would have been better to have these features right at the start, it’s still good that the company has occasionally revisited the titles, despite the fact that it would have been easier to leave them be at this point. Now, it seems as though even more upgrades are planned for the series’ older games in the near future.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a Second Wind in The Franchise’s Sails, but It’s Not a New Ship

While there’s a lot of excitement around Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, it’s worth remembering that it’s a version of the past, not the future.

Ubisoft Might Be Working on 60 FPS Upgrades For Older Assassin’s Creed Titles

Speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, insider Tom Henderson claimed that Ubisoft is looking to give some older Assassin’s Creed games a 60 FPS upgrade on current-gen consoles, which would be a massive improvement in the experience for those revisiting them in 2026 and beyond. “Obviously they’ve just done the Far Cry 60 FPS rollout, right?” Henderson explained. “I think they’re now starting that with Assassin’s Creed, I believe Unity might be one of the first ones to get a 60 FPS update.” Assassin’s Creed Unity was the only game that Henderson specifically named here, but the implication certainly is that it wouldn’t be the only one. There are a bunch of games that are limited to 30 FPS on consoles that could be in line for an upgrade, including Assassin’s Creed 3, Rogue, and The Ezio Collection. Black Flag also fits the criteria, though the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Resynced could potentially hamper those chances.

Although Ubisoft’s plans on the matter remain unclear, 60 FPS upgrades for Assassin’s Creed titles would be in line with the company’s actions of late. The studio recently launched 60 FPS updates for three Far Cry games: Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal. All three came as a pleasant surprise to gamers, and with Ubisoft seemingly focusing on some of its most popular franchises of late, earning some goodwill with free 60 FPS updates would make a lot of sense. It wouldn’t be the first time Ubisoft has done this with Assassin’s Creed, either. In November 2024, Ubisoft released a 60 FPS update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and did the same thing in 2022 with Assassin’s Creed Origins. It’s not clear why it stopped after this, but it seems that gamers might finally be getting more upgrades after all.

Overlooking Notre Dame in Assassin's Creed Unity

With Ubisoft’s stock taking a massive hit lately and the company undergoing significant restructuring, it seems Assassin’s Creed will become even more central to its plans in the coming years. Current rumors suggest that, as a result of the recent restructuring, the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Resynced has been delayed, although this remains unconfirmed. The next mainline game in the series is Assassin’s Creed Hexe, although very little information has been revealed about the title at the moment. Given how important Assassin’s Creed is to Ubisoft at this point in time, it’s going to be a very interesting few years for the franchise.
