Co-op city building Xbox Game Pass title Overthrown has finally revealed its planned 1.0 launch date. The action-packed, lighthearted title was first released in early access on December 5, 2024 for PC and Xbox Game Pass, with a PlayStation 5 version of the title also planned for the future.
Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service has been a major component in bringing early access titles to console players, a benefit normally reserved for gamers who play on PC. While most games will launch their 1.0 versions on Xbox Game Pass, the option to host a game that’s still a work in progress has proven appealing for many Xbox titles. Some of the service’s biggest hits, such as Palworld, as well as both Grounded and Grounded 2, first landed on the platform in early access. The trend doesn’t appear to be ending soon, as some recently confirmed day-one Game Pass titles are already planning to land on the service while still in early access.

Co-Op City Building Adventure Overthrown Launches on March 18
Overthrown, an action-packed co-op city builder that grants players the freedom to lift anything, will finally launch its 1.0 version on March 18.2026. The announcement comes with a new trailer showing off the game’s colorful visuals, fast-paced action and unique city building mechanics. The vibrant and energetic title is currently available on Xbox Game Pass and PC, with a PS5 version launching alongside the completed game’s release.
In Overthrown, up to six players will help farm, craft and create, building a town from scratch utilizing resources gathered during exploration. The game’s most unique mechanic comes from the player’s ability to lift and throw any object, from animals to trees to even full buildings. If a player crafts a building that saws down trees to turn them into usable wooden beams, for example, they can then lift that entire building and take off running through the woods with it, allowing them to mow down droves of trees and expand their crafting efforts in the game. The game also includes seasonal changes, forcing players to prepare for harsh winters and other weather effects as time passes in the world around them.
Overthrown features a host of other mechanics to aid in creating the city of the player’s dreams, such as farming and hunting, throughout its large and brightly colored open world. To aid in these efforts, players can acquire a host of magical skills and abilities that enhance exploration. The game’s 1.0 trailer shows the main character dashing at rapid speeds and gliding across pools of water, to name a few. There are also various weapons and combat techniques, allowing players to take on the more threatening enemies and animals within Overthrown’s world.
The time spent in early access has undoubtedly allowed Overthrown to work out its kinks, honing its experience for new players upon release. After more than a full year in early access, Overthrown is almost guaranteed to launch with a built-in fan base and core mechanics that feel fleshed out and final. The playful, fun and frantic style of the gameplay should serve to draw in a larger crowd, with a pick-up-and-play style of crafting and combat that feels satisfying to delve into. With such a long wait for the final version of the game, fans should have plenty to enjoy when March 18 rolls around.
