Control Resonant Releases Massive New Update For October 2026

After teasing a major update, Remedy Entertainment delivered on that promise with a brand new and massive update for Control Resonant, featuring plenty of features, fixes, and improvements. Picking up on the hit game from 2019, Control Resonant takes players to a twisted version of Manhattan where the Hiss have seemingly broken out of the Oldest House and it’s up to players to fix things.

Despite the physical edition of Control Resonant being delayed for about a month, it hasn’t stopped the digital-only version from generating a lot of positive word of mouth from both players and critics. Not only did the game score well with the media, it also seems to have resonated with players as Remedy announced the game had managed to be added over 2 million times to player wishlists on Steam alone. It’s also clear that Remedy has plans for Control Resonant going forward, with its first major update bringing a ton of improvements, fixes, and a highly requested feature.

Control Resonant: All Artifacts & What Do They Do?

Here’s a complete list of Artifacts in Control Resonant, including what effects they offer Dylan and locations where players can find them.

The update for Control Resonant is massive in size, making an impact to almost every aspect of the game. Shockingly, Remedy also indicates that the patch notes don’t contain every fix made, just the ones that it feels make the biggest difference for players, or are just funny. Remedy gave fans a heads-up back in September, teasing a few big features coming to the game and the studio has made good on that promise. While Control Resonant does feature a traditional New Game Plus feature, it only lets players go through the campaign one additional time. However, with this update, Remedy has added a “New Game++” feature allowing players to continue to run through the campaign as many times as they want.

The patch itself makes a substantial amount of fixes or tweaks to missions, UI, lighting, and other aspects of the game. There are also a bunch of quality of life improvements as well, such as Dylan’s current Build Power level being displayed right in the Loadout screen to help players easily find it without having to first go into the Stats & Effects menu. The pin materials feature now highlights if the resources are available at a vendor simply by highlighting the icon from the map. Remedy has also added a specific radio dialogue volume slider, letting players adjust the balance between the TV speaker/Headphones and the DualSense controller. Streamers also have an option to “Mute copyrighted music” for Apocalyptica’s “Upperhand” intro credits song.

While New Game++ represents only the beginning of Control Resonant’s post-launch plans, Remedy has more planned for players in the short-term. In November, presumably through another update, Remedy is planning to unleash a dedicated Photo Mode, a feature that the studio admitted has been in development for a long while and that it collaborated with talented community photographers to make sure the feature is the best it can be. A release date is still up in the air at the moment, but the feature will certainly lead to some incredible screenshots by the community.

Control Resonant Update 1.40 Patch Notes

Beware of potential spoilers for certain bosses or zonesHIGHLIGHTS

  • New Game ++
  • You can now play an infinite number of runs of CONTROL Resonant in New Game ++
  • Added the Build Power number to the Loadout screen on the bottom left so that players can easily see their Power level instead of having to find it buried in the Stats & Effects menu
  • It’s worth saying here that if you are below the enemy level, you are going to have a tougher time with combat, so keep doing side quests, explore twisted Manhattan, and level up!
  • The HUD will have a little notification icon to indicate that you have new things to buy or upgrade in The Gap
  • Added a feature that when you pin materials you need to acquire for upgrades, you can see if these materials are available at the Vendor by looking at the Vendor icon on the Map (instead of having to go to the Vendor to see their wares)
  • Unknown Zone – Decreased the overall amount of combat and intensity by 10%-15%
  • Added a separate volume slider for radio dialogue. You can now customize the audio balance between speakers/headphones and the DualSense controller speaker
  • Added a new option in the Assist Mode – Power Core Charge Duration: Added a 100-300% Power Core Charge duration multiplier
  • Many fixes to map markers either sticking around too long or being in the wrong place and not clearing correctly. We are sure we still missed a few of these, though
  • Fixed a VFX issue where framerate could drop during the Artist Resonant fight when she does her special attack
  • Added “Mute copyrighted music” option to turn off Apocalyptica’s “Upperhand” intro credits song (It’s a great track, so why would you)
  • Added a Tutorial about the Rush ability removing status effects
  • Fixed over-saturated HDR highlights in AgX (tonemapper)
  • Fixed a multitude of subtitle and VO issues across the game
  • Several specific performance optimizations, mainly targeting PC minimum and recommended specs
  • Polish on all aspects of the game, including audio, dialogue timing, subtitle timing, animation, lighting, code, mission polish, UI, and so on
  • Added support for Razer haptics. The game will trigger many gameplay events like using melee, taking damage, etc., and trigger effects on Razer peripherals

We should also mention that AMD has released new optional drivers that improve performance and fix several game crashes. Please download the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 Optional Driver directly from the AMD website.

AUDIO

  • Added a separate volume slider for radio dialogue, so players will be able to customize the audio balance between speakers/headphones + DualSense controller speaker

  • Fixed Dr Darling’s projected videos going out of sync or losing dialogue altogether

  • Fixed an issue with audio cutting out throughout the game on Xbox Series X

  • Fixed Rangers glitching if they die by being smashed high up in the air
  • Fixed an issue where the player could get out of bounds when approaching the Deserter boss by executing an enemy in the factory
  • Reduced artifacts in the opening credits, resulting in the vibes not being at maximum
  • Additional polish addressing minor issues across a range of cinematics
  • Adjusted many areas of the game to stop players from getting out of bounds or breaking Story Quest progression
  • Adjusted draw distances, tweaked streaming volumes, and improved many LODs to fix pop-in issues across the game
  • Adjusted the Hedron boss phase 1 arena size to improve the player experience
  • Improved signposting towards the Oldest House rooftop in the Unknown Zone

  • Fixed over-saturated HDR highlights in AgX (tonemapper)
  • Fixed aggressive artifacts and pixelation most visible when using HDR
  • Fixed an issue where the game would crash when toggling between RT modes
  • Fixed an issue where the Steam Controller wouldn’t reconnect if the connection were lost (you are back in the game!) This fix also impacts other controllers when using Steam Input.
  • Increased the Main Menu Save Game slot count from 5 to 7
  • For example: New Game+ runs, and your original run save games exist in separate Save Game folders, which are accessible when loading a game from the main menu.

  • Added a new option in the Assist Mode – The game now refunds one dodge and one jump after an air execution if the player is out of both

  • Fixed an issue in the Into the Sinkhole quest where during the miniboss encounter enemies would get stuck or fall out of Gravity Anomalies (so it’s harder now)
  • Fixed an issue where Drone enemies (the ones whose sacrifice is meaningless to the progress of the encounters) would disappear too quickly when revived by the “Crowd Conversion” talent
  • Fixed multiple issues when using the Push ability and how enemies react to it in Gravity Anomalies
  • Fixed an issue where using any of the Fast Travel doors in Evacuation Zone and moving to Central would result in the game displaying the wrong Zone name (at least the font size stayed consistent!)
  • Fixed the Leashing status effect so that enemies returning to their area regenerate Falter instead of being immune to it
  • Fixed an issue where Dylan would not perform the Ground Slam if he hit his head on a low ceiling…
  • Fixed an issue where the Shield ability was not affected by the Wallet Artifact (show me the money!)
  • Fixed an issue where the Tutorial for Respeccing and refunding would be skipped if the player quits to the main menu right after defeating the Artist
  • Fixed an issue in the quest Enemy of My Enemy where Pope’s dialogue would go missing after reloading the game
  • Fixed an issue where selecting silent conversation options plays the wrong dialogue (stay quiet!)

  • Fixed an issue where, in the fight against the Collective Resonant boss, the Mold Scrappers are unable to move after using their Leap in Gravity Anomalies
  • Fixed an issue where The Last Taxi quest wasn’t granting any rewards (well, Dylan didn’t really pay for the ride at any point…)
  • Fixed an issue where collecting an audio collectible would not always play when you would instantly go into the Archives menu to listen to the collectible you picked up
  • Fixed an issue where using the Command function on a heavy enemy with low health costs 2 charges (instead of 1) despite the “Thought Leader” talent being active
  • Fixed a rare issue with Artifacts. Sometimes equipping an artifact, then removing it and equipping it again in the Loadout screen, removed the effect the Artifact was supposed to produce.

LEVEL DESIGN

  • Many fixes to Map markers either sticking around too long or being in the wrong place or requiring both entrances to the room be opened to make the marker disappear (that’s one way to extend the gameplay hours)
  • Dylan now audibly reacts to doing Tasks

  • New Game +: Fixed a rare issue in the Into the Sinkhole quest where a miniboss wouldn’t spawn at the end of the quest
  • Improved many Gravity Anomalies to work better
  • Not sure why, but the microphone in “The Party Won’t Stop” karaoke mission no longer stays floating in the air after the song has been completed. Thought it was an Altered Item
  • Fixed Carbon Copy Part 2 – The call from Zoe that starts part 2 doesn’t trigger
  • Fixed several issues where enemy encounters started prematurely, and enemies fell through the world to their (deserved) deaths
  • Fixed a rare issue with the Achievement / Trophy – “Repeating, Refracting”, where the user got the Achievement / Trophy after killing the Hedron after the third phase, before the platforming section
  • Fixed multiple PlayStation 5 Activities triggering at wrong times and not ending correctly

  • Fixed an issue in the “Recursions and Iterations” quest where after reloading the game an interact would appear on Ayad, but do nothing.

  • Fixed an issue with The Complete Set quest where the interaction prompt for the Subwoofer at the end of the quest would not appear for 2 minutes
  • Fixed an issue with the Panopticon Service Request where the cell door to the radio was open too early and picking it up would result in skipped quest steps

GAME DESIGN

  • Unknown Zone – Decreased the overall amount of combat by 10%-15%
  • (Some of you on Reddit will be happy about this one) Made the Firebreak employee doing his job in The Park a lot stronger. There wasn’t supposed to be this amount of Mold to to stand in to make the job that difficult for the Firebreaker.

  • Fixed an issue where after killing the Collective Resonant with One-Hit Kills on in the Assist Mode, its tentacles remained alive and surprised the crap out of players if they returned to the site of the glorious fight
  • Fixed an issue where the Status Spread talent upgrade would spread the Infected/Burn status effect even after it had expired
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs with half-armor had an incorrect status effect icon
  • Fixed an issue where warning indicators were being shown from grenades thrown by friendly Rangers
  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck in the training area of The Gap for an eternity
  • Fixed an issue where the Split Pivot and Split Orbit combo enders can retrigger the Crush Instant Charge upgrade multiple times, which can cause animations to get stuck
  • Finetuned the forklift enemy to be easier to hit
  • Fixed Player progression – Secondary Weapon – Power Drill upgrade adds less than 25% power from drilling airborne enemies
  • Fixed an issue where Swarm Satellites were not dealing damage to each other after using Command
  • Fixed an issue where the Magnet Artifact didn’t show small Resource Crates on the map in dungeons

  • Fixed an issue where the speaker name was not shown in subtitles if VO language was set to a language other than English
  • Fixed issues where calls to Dylan would overlap at inopportune moments
  • New Game + – Fixed an issue where Zoe would mention rescuing the Party Won’t Stop partygoers and congratulate Dylan for saving them. Despite everyone being dead

UI

  • Added the Build Power to the Loadout screen so that players can easily see their Power level instead of having to find it buried under the Stats & Effects menu
  • Removed the scroll requirement from the EULA and Privacy Policy screens. (The real highlight of this patch. Legal in the house!)
  • Spoiler warning added to the Digital Deluxe Edition’s Art book menu
  • Fixed several instances of overlapping HUD elements, such as notifications, conversations, subtitles and the HUD being visible over in-game cutscenes or scripted sequences
  • Fixed an issue where the player could become stuck in the Options menu after backing out using a mouse while entering a code in the “Redeem Code” screen
