Cozy gamers looking for a witchy title to enjoy for the Halloween season can finally jump into the official 1.0 launch of REKA, a laid-back, relaxing crafting game inspired by Slavic folklore. REKA fully released exclusively for PC via Steam on October 26, and the magical indie game is already earning high marks among genre fans and Wicca enthusiasts.
While REKA originally launched in early access all the way back in September 2024, the game has undergone a number of key changes over the years to prepare it for its big 1.0 release. Initial reviews from 2024 praised REKA for its visual style and magical themes, as well as its slightly different approach to a folklore world that removed combat and instead prioritized questing and crafting. Most of the improvements made throughout the two years of early access focused on balancing the gameplay experience, improving user interfaces, and ensuring a multitude of bugs were finally squashed. Having already earned comparisons to games like Disney Dreamlight Valley, the 1.0 launch of REKA seems to be hitting a solid stride now that it has finally left early access.
REKA 1.0 Launches on Steam in Time for Halloween

REKA sees players taking on the role of the titular Reka, as she enters a magical apprenticeship and sets out on a stress-free adventure of growth and discovery. Players can collect materials to reconstruct, decorate, and customize the walking chicken-legged cottage made famous by Slavic folklore, all while advancing their studies of gentle witchcrafts under the tutelage of the great witch Baba Jaga. Local villagers will provide additional quests, while the surrounding woodlands are filled with wild flora that can be collected for brewing mystical potions and cooking traditional recipes. Animals like cats and foxes can also be found and even befriended, with the option to bring the companions back to live in the chicken-legged cottage. The lack of combat highlights the classic witchcraft gameplay over a more action-oriented approach, making for a perfectly cozy journey in a magical setting.
The fantastical world of REKA does grant players a bit more creative freedom than the standard cozy gaming experience, with choice-based character moments allowing audiences to decide whether they want to be a sweet, kindhearted witch or something more wicked to rival the fears sown by darker folklore. This added depth and fairytale charm have frequently been noted in reviews as one of the standout elements of REKA, as players are directly shown how their witchy powers can affect the lives of the people and creatures they will meet along their journey. With its deeply rich world building and authentic Slavic storytelling, the 1.0 release of REKA already sits at 90% positive reviews on Steam.
October remains a key month for all things spooky, witchy, and dark fantasy, with a number of both AAA and indie games releasing on Steam and other platforms throughout the Halloween month each year. While some have considered the cozy genre as a whole to become oversaturated in recent years, the unique Wicca twist and woodsy visuals of REKA make it a refreshing standout that could be just what longtime genre fans have been looking for.
