Pearl Abyss officially announces that the Charting the Unknown DLC for Crimson Desert is getting pushed back by 2 weeks, now launching at the end of October. It’s been a big year for Crimson Desert, which has seen the game evolve from its launch version and although the DLC looks to expand things even further, fans will have to wait a little longer to experience it.
So far, it has been a remarkable run for Crimson Desert, which certainly experienced a rollercoaster of ups and downs when it launched back in March. With a lot of anticipation, Crimson Desert launched to mixed critical reviews, which saw the stock for Pearl Abyss take a big hit. However, the game rebounded very quickly thanks to a combination of positive word of mouth from players and an astounding run of weekly updates that not only continued to add new content and features, but fixed many of the issues that people had with the game at launch. That continued rapid support helped make Crimson Desert one of the biggest games of 2026 so far and the developer has more on the horizon.
Crimson Desert Charting the Unknown Gets New Release Date
In a post on social media, Pearl Abyss shared some unfortunate news with fans and those eagerly anticipating Crimson Desert‘s big DLC called Charting the Unknown. While originally set to launch on October 15, the DLC has been delayed by 2 weeks and will now launch on October 29, 2026. The message revealed that the team determined that additional time was needed to help deliver a “more polished and stable gameplay experience” though no specifics were given. The post wraps up by apologizing for the longer wait, but promises the extra time will be used to “deliver the best experience” that it can.
While a delay is unfortunate in general, this year may be even worse considering how tightly packed both the September and October release schedules have been due to the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November. Not only does pushing the DLC mean it’s now even closer to that game’s launch, but it’s now actively competing with some end of October games, like Phantom Blade Zero and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to an extent as well.
In terms of the DLC itself, Charting the Unknown expands Crimson Desert‘s already massive map to include the northern regions as well as being able to explore under the water. The game’s base-building system is seeing additional improvements and added features, while naval combat, additional mech options, and new enemies to battle are also being introduced.
The DLC is coming on the heels of another major update for the game. Despite near constant weekly updates over the course of months, Pearl Abyss surprised most fans by announcing the launch of an Enhanced Edition for Crimson Desert that launched earlier in September. Known as Update 2.0, the Enhanced Edition collects everything that has been released so far, while also adding a bunch of new key features like making character progression less restrictive, an improved main story, New Game Plus, new skills, and more. Better yet, this Enhanced Edition is completely free for owners of the game.
