Crimson Desert Developer Shares Skyrocket After Recent Sales Announcement

Pearl Abyss saw the value of its shares skyrocket by 27.76% following an announcement that Crimson Desert sold over three million copies within its first week. Developed by the studio behind Black Desert, Crimson Desert is an open-world experience that launched with no small amount of hype, yet many of its players were left disappointed by its counterintuitive controls or lackluster story. Crimson Desert made its debut with mixed ratings on Steam, albeit with a peak of 248,530 concurrent players. It was a commercial success for Pearl Abyss, selling two million copies in a single day, but public opinion on the game was split.

Review scores affected Pearl Abyss’ stock, sinking it by 29.88% ahead of launch. Though Crimson Desert had strong sales, the day after its release saw the company’s shares plummet by an additional 9.78%. However, despite the mixed reception and the lack of confidence from investors, Crimson Desert continued to retain its player count, with the development team promising a series of changes to some of the game’s biggest complaints. This approach not only repaired the game’s reputation on Steam, but it also arguably contributed to Crimson Desert‘s strong word-of-mouth.

Crimson Desert New Patch Fixes One of the Game’s Most Annoying Problems

Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss confirms a fix is already here for one of the game’s most annoying problems.

Crimson Desert’s Developer Stock Surges By Nearly 30%

As observed by Dr. Sekan Toto, March 25, 2026, saw a major surge in stock value for Pearl Abyss, increasing by 27.76%. While its shares did not recover to their value prior to launch, it appears that the market is adjusting to Crimson Desert‘s commercial success. As Crimson Desert‘s Steam rating continues to climb, it is important to mention the two key factors behind it. As of March 25, 2026, the developers have improved fast travel, adjusted controls, and even added private storage at Hernand lodgings and Howling Hill camp. On the other hand, new Crimson Desert players entering the continent of Pywel do so with a much clearer set of expectations compared to launch. Crimson Desert might not offer a thrilling narrative or an interesting protagonist, but it does offer a wide-open world with a varied set of objectives that players can sink their teeth into.

Yet amid its success, Crimson Desert hasn’t been without its share of controversies. For example, the game does not support Intel Arc graphics cards, offering refunds to players who may have unwittingly bought Crimson Desert on an incompatible PC. Moreover, many fans spotted the use of undisclosed AI in Crimson Desert for some of its paintings, sparking a discourse on whether the assets were placeholders that were never updated and whether it was a topic worth arguing about, as the gameplay was far removed from the paintings themselves.

For players who are looking to dive into Crimson Desert, it may be worth waiting for Pearl Abyss to further optimize and improve upon the base game. The developer promised to add support to Intel GPUs, and the latest Crimson Desert update was well received by the community as a step in the right direction, rebalancing some of the game’s bosses and fixing some of its most pressing bugs. With seven years of development and over a hundred million dollars invested, it’s clear that Pearl Abyss isn’t willing to move on from Crimson Desert – despite it being an offline, single-player experience.

While Crimson Desert may not cater to every kind of RPG fan, it has ultimately proven to be a game that perfectly understands the audience it caters to. With an open world comparable to Zelda, engaging combat, and an addictive gameplay loop, players can reasonably expect these pillars to improve further via post-launch updates. Even if it does not win any major awards by the end of the year, Crimson Desert has left a strong mark on 2026 all the same.
