Crimson Desert Modders Are Already Fixing the Game’s Controls

Crimson Desert Modders Are Already Fixing the Game’s Controls

Crimson Desert modders are already taking it upon themselves to fix the game’s well-documented control problems. Although Crimson Desert was only released days ago, clever modders are seeking to address one of the game’s biggest complaints. Despite modders’ efforts, it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing so far.

In the wake of Crimson Desert‘s release, many players quickly grew frustrated with the game’s control scheme. Some actions that in other games require a single button press take multiple in Crimson Desert. One example is that on Xbox Series X/S, players must press LB and A to interact with items, or hold down the A button to sprint. They’re small issues that eventually add up to quite a frustrating experience, which many Crimson Desert reviews highlighted pre-release. Luckily, modders are already on the case.

Players of the latest action-adventure game Crimson Desert find an unconventional way to get around by using trees as catapults.

Early Crimson Desert Mods Address Control Complaints

In the days following its release, modders on Nexus Mods have released several mods that look to address Crimson Desert‘s controls. There are multiple of note. The first is odashikonbu’s “Smooth movement for Crimson Desert,” which allows players to sprint automatically by tilting their controller thumbstick. The next is “CDSprintHold” from Masrad, a keyboard and mouse-centric mod that lets players hold the Shift key to sprint. Perhaps the most significant controls mod for the open-world game so far is “Controller Button Remapper” by kindiboy, which adds the ability to remap controller buttons via an INI file.

All of these mods serve specific purposes, but players using them at this point shouldn’t expect miracles. A glance through each mod’s comments suggests that they all have small issues that don’t quite resolve everything, even if they should represent an improvement over the base game controls. It’s still very early days, though, so it’s possible that future updates to these Crimson Desert mods will fully smooth them out.

These mods are for the players who can’t wait for developer Pearl Abyss to release an official fix for Crimson Desert‘s controls. The studio recently revealed that a patch is on the way to address these problems, but gave no indication of when players can expect it to arrive in-game. Having both official and community fixes is great, as it allows gamers to choose the solution that is right for them.

At this early stage, it’s not clear whether Crimson Desert will develop a significant modding community. Over the years, other massive RPGs such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim have benefited from dedicated modding communities, which have given them longevity way beyond what most would expect. However, Pearl Abyss has not confirmed whether Crimson Desert will get official modding support in the future, which is often a major hurdle in modders sticking around for the long haul. That said, it’s cool to see creators quickly diving in to see what is already possible by modding Crimson Desert to improve its most frustrating issues.

After Crimson Desert‘s successful release, gamers’ attention will now turn to Pearl Abyss’ post-launch support. The developer has been quiet about its future plans for the game, so hopefully it will enjoy continued support in the form of new patches in the coming weeks and months, especially now that Crimson Desert has sold millions of copies.
