Crimson Desert Players Are Finding Their Way Into A Surprisingly Detailed Outer Space

Crimson Desert players, not content with exploring its massive open world, are now taking to the stars, and what they’ve found up there is surprisingly detailed.

As originally discovered by ItemRelocationClub on YouTube (via PC Gamer) and further highlighted by NikTek on X, a mod for Crimson Desert granting protagonist Kliff unlimited stamina allows those with a lot of patience to infinitely aerial stab their way into the cosmos.

This apparently takes several hours to accomplish, but once there, the view is certainly impressive. From space, players can actually see the curvature of Crimson Desert’s world, far away galaxies, and other celestial bodies. Upon descending back to the earth, Kliff even seems to light on fire upon reentering the world’s atmosphere, though this could just be a side effect of the equipped lantern making it appear that way.

Regardless, the attention to detail found even in Crimson Desert’s upper atmosphere is impressive, especially considering players can’t appear to get there through non-modded means. As for why developer Pearl Abyss went out of its way to accurately portray what it would be like to become an astronaut and leave the world of Pywel behind, that’s anyone’s guess. Some players are speculating some type of space-based DLC could be coming, while others think the developer is just that obsessed with immersive details.

Being able to go to space and take in the sights is just one of the many details Pearl Abyss went out of its way to include in its open-world RPG. Players have been equally impressed by the lives of the game’s NPCs, who go about their business of chiseling statues, building bridges, and chopping down trees in real time.

Crimson Desert has sold over 4 million copies since its March 19 launch on PC and current-gen consoles, with recent updates addressing player complaints in regards to fast travel, inventory management, and item storage.

Shortly after launch, players discovered what looked to be the inclusion of an AI-generated piece of artwork in-game. Pearl Abyss later apologized for the artwork, stating it was used early in production as a placeholder and meant to be replaced. Pearl Abyss stated it would conduct a “comprehensive audit” of in-game assets and replace any other AI-generated assets, with the original AI art in question having been replaced.

In GameSpot’s Crimson Desert review, reviewer Richard Wakeling said Pearl Abyss’ RPG featured a “spectacular open world and thrilling combat” but is let down by “a few narrative and quality-of-life issues.”
