Crimson Desert developers Pearl Abyss have announced a delay to the open-world action-adventure’s first major DLC drop since its March 2026 release. The $25 expansion, Charting the Unknown which introduces seafaring, home building and a bunch of new quests and storyline, was originally due to release October 15. It’s now slipped by a pretty short two weeks, intended to arrive October 29. Which is a lifetime to this studio.
“We are hard at work on Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown to bring you new adventures to Pywel,” reads a statement posted to the game’s X account. “However, we have determined that we need additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience.”

Two weeks might sound like an extremely short time period for making important changes to bring a release up to standard, but then you have to remember this is Pearl Abyss we’re talking about. Following the massive release of the original game in March, the studio pumped out patches and updates at a speed that defied belief, adding huge new content to the endgame as well as a wealth of patches adding billions of quality-of-life improvements, story improvements, and key changes to how the game plays, all within the first month.
In August, the game’s name was updated to Crimson Desert Enhanced to consolidate all 17 of the patches and content additions, as well as add in big changes to the main story, lots more voice-over, and better combat. Somehow, alongside all of this, the studio has also put together this first DLC which has a whole new chunk of story, along with new enemies and bosses within it, as well as—extraordinarily—expanding the game into the seas, with the addition of ships to sail to new islands, as well as underwater diving to explore ruins, find treasure, and get into a bunch of new mysteries.
Alongside this, Charting the Unknown will allow players to rent properties, run facilities, and build a far better home, as well as adding a relationship system for bonding with the locals in Pywel.
“We know many of you have been looking forward to returning to the game and we sincerely apologize for the longer wait,” Pearl Abyss’s statement continues. “We will use the additional time to further refine the content and do our utmost to deliver the best experience we can.” Sure, but what will they do with the second week?! Perhaps by October 29 it’ll also include space travel and an RTS battle system.
