The second season of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has already come under fire, as fans claimed that Sega broke a promise from the game’s pre-release window that stated all paid DLC releases would be free for users who purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders of the Year 2 Season Pass for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are currently priced at $29.99 on all supported platforms.

At Summer Game Fest, Sega surprised fans by showcasing crossover DLC with Godzilla and Evangelion as part of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ upcoming year of paid content. During the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds World Championship Finals event in New York City on October 9, the development team revealed more content for Year 2. Some of the DLC packs will draw upon Sega’s catalog, including the Segaland Pack based on the company’s console history and the Reload Revival Royal Pack that will feature content from the Persona series.

Fans Demand Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Make Year 2 DLC Pass Free

Following the reveal of what Sega has planned for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds‘ second season, some players believed that the Year 2 Season Pass should be free for some users. Keen-eyed fans pointed to a June 2025 Twitter post made by Sega months before Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds hit store shelves that claimed “all future paid downloadable content” would be available in the Digital Deluxe Edition. Although this much is true for all content that was included in the Year 1 Season Pass, Sega instead listed the Year 2 Season Pass as a separate listing available for $29.99. In short, Sonic fans said that Sega broke its promise to Digital Deluxe Edition users and demanded that the company honor its initial statement by including the Year 2 Season Pass at no added cost.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year 2 Season Pass Content

  • Godzilla Pack — November 3, 2026
  • Evangelion Pack — January 2027
  • Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack (Hello Kitty/Sanrio World) — Q2 2027
  • Segaland Pack — Q3 2027
  • Midgar Pack (Final Fantasy 7 Remake Series) — Q3 2027
  • Reload Revival Royal Pack (Persona 3, 4, and 5) — Q4 2027

Sega has not commented on the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds DLC situation as of this writing, though the June 2025 Twitter post in question is still available for users to read. Along with the individual Year 2 Season Pass, the Steam page for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds now lists two separate Digital Deluxe Editions. The first pack includes the base game and the Year 1 Season Pass, while the newer listing includes the base game and the Year 2 Season Pass instead.

However, some of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ upcoming content will not require a Season Pass to enjoy. Once Season 2 kicks off on November 3, Bayonetta will be available in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as a racer that players can unlock for free after defeating her in Rival Duel races. Bayonetta will also come with the Butterfly Witch vehicle, based on the demon Madama Butterfly. Other pieces of free content that players will get throughout Year 2 include the McLaren Racing Pack and Aigis from Persona 3 as a racer.

As of October 9, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has received a permanent discount. Digital versions of the base game are now priced at $39.99, with the aforementioned Digital Deluxe Editions also going for $59.99 each. Given that the upcoming DLC slate will include content from third parties such as the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, it is unclear what additional moves Sega will make to satisfy both its fans and its collaborative partners.
