During Devolver Digital’s Devolver Direct on June 7, a new Cult of the Lamb update was announced for August 12 featuring co-op multiplayer. Cult of the Lamb is a rogue-like where players take control of a sacrificial lamb in charge of a cult dedicated to a being known as “The One Who Waits.” Since the game’s release, developer Massive Monster has continued to support the game with free content updates. The update announced at the Devolver Direct marks the game’s third free content update.
Cult of the Lamb has received sizable content updates since its launch in 2022, keeping the game fresh and giving players a reason to keep coming back to the rogue-like. Cult of the Lamb’s first update is called “Relics of the Old Faith.” This update focused primarily on expanding the game’s combat. The second and most substantial update to the Cult of the Lamb so far is called “Sins of the Flesh.” This update added new features, items, and quests for the player to take on.

Now, the Unholy Alliance update is bringing co-op multiplayer to Cult of the Lamb, as announced during the Devolver Direct on June 7. This announcement comes off of the heels of the Cult of the Lamb comic being announced. Once the update launches, players will be able to team-up with a friend to experience Cult of the Lamb together. One player will take control of the titular lamb while a second player controls a new goat character. By playing together, the game introduces new twists on mini-games and switches up gameplay. The Lamb and the Goat are able to switch weapons mid-combat. And if both players fight in sync, they are able to deal bonus damage.
Unholy Alliance Adding More than Just Co-Op
In addition to co-op, Unholy Alliance also adds new powers and abilities for solo players to enjoy. Also included will be “new tarot cards, relics, buildings, fleeces, follower traits, follower quests, and other secrets to discover,” according to a press release from Devolver Digital. The co-op being added to Cult of the Lamb is restricted to local co-op only, with no indication of online co-op being added at a later date. Massive Monster is sure to continue supporting Cult of the Lamb for the foreseeable future. With this being the second update of 2024 following Cult of the Lamb’s Sins of the Flesh update in January, there is always more potential for content to be added to Cult of the Lamb. The developers have been taking fan feedback and adding to the game since its launch, leading to it becoming one of Devolver Digital’s bestselling games.
Cult of the Lamb received rave reviews when it released in 2022, and Unholy Alliance looks to improve upon the game even further. Cult of the Lamb‘s Unholy Alliance update launches on August 12. Players will be able to take control of the Lamb and the Goat and lead their cult to success together.
