Cyberpunk 2077 Getting a New Update

Cyberpunk 2077 Getting a New Update

Developer CD Projekt Red has announced that its smash-hit RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, will receive a major PlayStation 5 Pro update in the near future. While Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been clamoring for more content over the last few months, those with the Pro edition of the PlayStation 5, which features a more powerful GPU, faster RAM, and better ray tracing capabilities, will soon be able to take full advantage of the hardware when playing CD Projekt Red’s 2020 release.

Cyberpunk 2077 may have had one of the most controversial launches in gaming history, but CD Projekt Red’s dedication to the title has turned a sinking ship into an all-time classic. Over the past six years, the developer has released a steady stream of hotfixes, content updates, and general patches to improve players’ experience when visiting Night City. Despite the studio being full steam ahead on plenty of new titles, such as the highly anticipated Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red has still made the time (with the help of Virtuos) to continue releasing new Cyberpunk 2077 updates all these years later. While it has now been six months since the game’s last patch, there is a significant update now confirmed to be in the works.

Cyberpunk 2077 Confirms PS5 Pro Update Coming Soon

Fans have long been requesting a PS5 Pro-enhanced version of Cyberpunk 2077, and it looks like the wait is almost over. In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), CD Projekt Red announced that a free technological update for Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5 will be coming in “the not-too-distant future.” The studio said that new details on the update will arrive in the coming weeks, which means there’s still a short wait left to go until players can experience an upgraded version of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The announcement of a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 comes on the same day that Sony unveiled an upgraded version of PSSR on the PS5 Pro, with CD Projekt Red’s futuristic RPG being one of the many titles that will be integrating the feature into it. PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, known more commonly as PSSR, has now been updated with enhanced image stability, improved clarity in fine details, and more consistent performance across supported titles. Studios such as Konami, Electronic Arts, Remedy Entertainment, and many more have also been working to incorporate the newest version of PSSR into their existing and upcoming games. While Cyberpunk 2077‘s PS5 Pro update is still to come, titles such as Silent Hill f, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Alan Wake 2, and more are already taking advantage of the upgraded PSSR on the PS5 Pro.

It is worth noting, however, that while Cyberpunk 2077‘s upcoming PS5 Pro update will also take advantage of Sony’s new PSSR, CD Projekt Red won’t be adding any new content to the game with the upcoming patch. In a follow-up post, the studio said the upcoming update is solely focused on allowing it to take advantage of the expanded hardware capabilities offered by the PS5 Pro system. This comes after continued speculation that the studio is once again working with Virtuos to bring Cyberpunk 2077 fans a secret update or second DLC. CD Projekt Red said last week that it has no plans for new content, and has now reiterated that sentiment once again following the PS5 Pro update reveal.

The good news is that the world of Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t over, as CD Projekt Red is already hard at work on a highly anticipated sequel, currently titled Cyberpunk 2. With development on The Witcher 4 further along, it’s likely that the sequel is still quite a few years away. Although there’s still no release date for either title, there are plenty of details surrounding The Witcher 4 already, with a tech demo from June 2025 showcasing Ciri’s venture through the region of Kovir, featuring stunning landscapes, interactions with NPCs, and more.
