Dragon’s Dogma 2 is getting its very first DLC soon with the arrival of Dark Arisen, and one of the expansion’s biggest selling points is that it is set to introduce a completely new region to the map. This brand-new area is a cold, snow-covered region called Norgan that presents new challenges for players to stumble upon as they explore the icy location. Adding a new biome to Dragon’s Dogma 2 would have been exciting enough, but Dark Arisen isn’t stopping at Norgan with the DLC’s map expansion.
When it comes to a lot of modern open-world RPGs, DLCs can be seen as a way to simply make the map bigger. Granted, a larger map can be exciting, but an expansion has to make the extra size truly worth it. A bigger map doesn’t matter when there isn’t an ample amount of content to incentivize hours of exploration. The team behind Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s Dark Arisen DLC seem to be fully aware of this, because in addition to Norgan, the fantasy RPG is getting a dozen new dungeons that bring much more to the table than just a new map area.
In Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Norgan Is Simply the Tip of the Iceberg

Don’t get me wrong; Norgan looks like a strong addition to the Dragon’s Dogma 2 map. New features like an ice dragon and dangerous weather that can take a toll on a player’s stamina make for an intriguing challenge that is bound to keep the game feeling hard in a fresh way. Despite all the great features that Norgan has to offer, the 12 Lost Rites dungeons being added to the game serve as a reminder of what makes open-world RPGs so rewarding in the first place.
Even better, the Lost Rites dungeons aren’t all in Norgan. The new dungeons are spread out across the base map and are intended to be endgame content that are just as challenging as they are rewarding. Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s endgame has been divisive ever since the early days of the game, so the arrival of Lost Rites dungeons is great news for fans who have been underwhelmed by the game’s Unmoored World.

Dark Arisen Realizes That Open-World Games Need to Go Deeper With Content, Not Bigger
It’s easy to just expand an open-world game’s map and call it a day. However, that doesn’t really add to any serious longevity. To keep players coming back for more for years to come, a good open-world RPG map has to have just as much depth to balance things out. Otherwise, exploring simply turns into traveling from Point A to Point B without any actual reward to look forward to. Game Naoto Oyama has also revealed that the DLC’s length is going to be pretty robust.
The new story takes place in a new region called Norgan. We expect players to spend around 15 to 20 hours completing that scenario. In addition, 12 unique dungeons will be added to the base game. Each dungeon is designed to take roughly 30 minutes to an hour to clear. With 12 of them in total, we believe players will be able to enjoy more than 25 hours of additional content with this expansion.
This is what makes the Lost Rites dungeons so intriguing. This feature puts player discovery and dungeon diving front and center, which is the key to crafting a world worth getting lost in. Good game design is no easy feat, and whether a map is well-made or not is especially obvious in the open-world RPG genre. Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC demands have been going on for a while now, and it’s promising that Capcom is using its first expansion as an opportunity to not just make the game larger, but also more layered.
2026 Could Be the Year That Dragon’s Dogma 2 Makes an Unexpected Comeback
Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t a bad game by any means, but its state at launch got it off to a pretty rocky start. Between performance issues, divisive gameplay and world design choices, and criticisms of repetitive enemies, Capcom’s open-world fantasy RPG didn’t get the debut that the company was hoping for. Despite its divisive features, Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s sales were strong, which has probably helped convince Capcom that the game is worth revamping with Dark Arisen.
Norgan can be reached early on in the game, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 devs have advised players to wait until reaching level 40 to venture into the treacherous, icy world. However, the choice is ultimately yours.
Frankly, Capcom has been on an impressive run in general this year. The company has multiple big hits under its belt for 2026, which is a much different picture than 2024’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 release and the Monster Hunter Wilds performance issues that plagued the game’s launch last year. Both games have seen improvements since their initial debuts, but Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen feels like more than just an expansion. It feels like Capcom is trying to make the game more enticing to both fans who have been with the RPG since the beginning and newcomers who wrote the game off after hearing about its issues.

A Look at Capcom’s 2026 Hits
- Resident Evil Requiem
- Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
- Pragmata
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection may not have been a huge commercial success, but the remaining trio of 2026 Capcom games has brought in both impressive sales and reviews. Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold 1 million copies on its launch day alone. As the last major new release planned by the company this year, Capcom has seen repeated wins in 2026.
Now that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is on the way, it’s going to be fascinating to watch its launch unfold. Between Norgan and the 12 new Lost Rites dungeons, Dragon’s Dogma 2 could see an influx of new players, which would make Capcom’s open-world title one of the most surprising comebacks of the year. Since Dragon’s Dogma 2 has also been confirmed to be coming to the Switch 2 on the same day that Dark Arisen launches, a major comeback is more possible than ever. Only time will tell, but the year that Capcom has had so far is hopefully paving the way for Dragon’s Dogma 2 to close out the company’s 2026 calendar in a big way.
