Dark Fantasy Game on Steam With 96% Positive Reviews Hits Lowest-Ever Price

Dark fantasy action adventure Death’s Door is currently available at its lowest-ever price on Steam, courtesy of a 90% discount. The promotional offer, available until early October 2026, brings Acid Nerve’s critically acclaimed title to its lowest-ever Steam price.

Typically priced at $19.99, Death’s Door‘s previous Steam floor was $3.99, first reached in September 2025. Rather than proving to be a one-off discount, that exact price returned eight more times over the next 12 months. This latest promotion, launched as part of Steam Autumn Sale 2026, cuts that well-established low in half, bringing Death’s Door to $1.99 for the first time ever.

The New Price Floor Is Also Likely To Hold for a While

The 90% discount on the Steam version of Death’s Door is officially available until October 8. While the record-low price is already a strong incentive, the deal is particularly notable because it applies to one of the highest-rated games of 2021, which managed an 88 average score and a 99% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, based on over 140 reviews. Player reception has closely mirrored that critical consensus and remained remarkably consistent over time, with Death’s Door still holding a 96% positive review rate on Valve’s storefront as of early October 2026.

What Death’s Door Is About

A Classic Zelda-Inspired Adventure in a Dark Fantasy Setting

Death's Door Press Image 1

Death’s Door is an isometric action-adventure game starring a small crow employed by the Reaping Commission, a highly bureaucratic organization tasked with collecting the souls of the dead. A routine assignment goes awry when the protagonist’s target is stolen, sending it into a region where natural death has effectively ceased and ancient inhabitants have survived long enough to become immensely powerful. Structurally, Death’s Door draws heavily from classic Zelda games. Players explore interconnected areas, enter dungeon-like spaces, solve environmental puzzles, acquire new abilities, and hunt down major bosses whose souls advance the central quest. Developer Acid Nerve pairs that familiar adventure framework with a grimdark setting reminiscent of Dark Souls, but while avoiding much of the punishing gameplay that series is known for.

Death’s Door Keeps Combat Simple but Purposeful

Combat revolves around a small set of interconnected mechanics. The crow can chain melee attacks, charge heavier strikes, dodge, and use ranged abilities including a bow, fire spell, bombs, and eventually a hookshot. Ranged attacks consume charges restored by landing melee hits, encouraging players to alternate between closing in, striking, retreating, and spending the resources earned from taking that risk. Difficulty comes largely from enemy combinations rather than complex character builds. Later Death’s Door encounters mix fast attackers, armored foes, projectiles, and area-denial hazards in tight arenas. Defeated enemies provide souls for straightforward upgrades to attack power, movement, and ranged effectiveness, while optional weapons and ability challenges add some customization. Healing also factors into exploration: collectible seeds can be planted in fixed pots, letting players establish recovery points along frequently traveled routes.

A Concise Adventure With Little Wasted Space

Much of Death’s Door‘s reputation rests on how efficiently its systems fit together rather than on any single mechanic. Its areas repeatedly loop back on themselves through newly opened gates, ladders, elevators, and other shortcuts, making exploration partly about learning the physical layout of each location. The result is a deliberately concise action-adventure whose strengths lie in its precision, atmosphere, rewarding exploration, and near-constant sense that every mechanic and location serves a purpose rather than merely padding the runtime. While Death’s Door can be rushed in about six hours, it remains a compelling package for fans of the genre even at full price, let alone at its current $1.99 price floor.
