The initial contracts you receive in Marathon are mostly fetch quests that don’t require a ton of effort on your part. These contracts are either for CyberAcme, or they’re the Liaison Contracts for new factions that you can join once you complete the “Welcome to Tau Ceti” contracts. However, after you’ve dipped your toes in some of the new factions, you’ll start to get more challenging contracts.
One of these contracts is called Data Reconstruction, and it’s required to progress the NuCaloric faction in Marathon. While Data Reconstruction sounds simple enough on paper, it’s not as easy as you might think. There are three separate objectives, and you’ll need to visit specific locations on a couple of maps. If you’re struggling with Data Reconstruction or want to get it done quickly in Marathon, take a look at the full contract walkthrough below.
All objectives in Data Reconstruction
Data Reconstruction is divided into three separate parts, each featuring its own objectivesrt45. The first part of the contract takes place entirely on the Perimeter map and has three different steps.
Fortunately, you don’t have to complete all three steps in a single run, so don’t worry about dying when trying to complete part one. It might even be easier to take a free loadout into your drop so you can fully focus on the contract’s objectives.
Scan (2) Sparkleaf Bioprinters in South Relay
Your first objective in part one of Data Reconstruction is to “Scan Sparkleaf Bioprinters in South Relay.” Naturally, you’ll want to drop into the Perimeter map and make your way to South Relay, which is located in the southeastern part of the map.
Inside the South Relay complex, you need to enter the northern building and visit the western room. Here, you’ll see white screens on the wall, and the first Sparkleaf Bioprinter you need to interact with is located between two of these white screens. This is marked on your HUD, but it can be difficult to find the exact location.
Scan the bioprinter and then move on to the second one, which is located inside a small room on the southeastern side of South Relay. Exit the northern building, head southeast, and enter the building through the northern door. Look left immediately after entering the door, and you’ll find a door tucked away in the corner. Go through the door, and you can find the Sparkleaf Bioprinter sitting on a white shelf in the northeastern corner of the room.
Scan (2) Fungal Bioprinters in Overflow
Your next objective in part one is to scan Fungal Bioprinters in the Overflow area of Perimeter. If you still have time in your current run, make your way over there by heading directly west of South Relay.
In Overflow, go to the central building and take the stairs to the second floor. Once up there, follow your HUD marker to find the first Fungal Bioprinter on the top of some white shelves in a narrow hallway.
Next, your second Fungal Bioprinter is located in the same building on the same floor, but this one is found in a small room next to a blue-lit lab. You’ll find the bioprinter on a white cabinet with red lights on it.
Download agricultural report in North Relay
Your final step in part one of Data Reconstruction is to head to North Relay and download an agricultural report.

The report is located in the far northern building in North Relay, which is marked as a NuCaloric building that has bright green colors on the outside of it. To get where you need to go, though, you’ll have to turn the power on for the building by heading to the bottom floor and flipping the power switch. The power switch is found through a large blue door on the bottom floor, which you can access by heading to the south side of the building.
Once the power has been switched on, go to the second floor of the NuCal building and download the report from the red computer on the desk marked on your HUD. You can now extract from the map, as the next part of Data Reconstruction requires you to head to the Dire Marsh map.
Fortunately, part two of the contract isn’t nearly as long as the first part. You’ll have to head to Dire Marsh and complete two objectives.
Download harvest logs from second-floor terminal of Algae Ponds
First up, you need to visit the Algae Ponds location in Dire Marsh, which is located directly in the center of the map. In Algae Ponds, you’re looking for the building in the center of the area. Go to the north side of the building and look for pods marked with the number “06.” Jump on top of the middle pod and turn around to access the building through a window to download the harvest logs from the computer.
Hack (3) Data Repositories along the catwalk in AI Uplink

Next, you have to head slightly southeast to the AI Uplink location in Dire Marsh. Here, you’re looking for some data repositories to hack, which really just means interacting with three keypads around the area.
Luckily, the keypads are all located on the bridge that runs across the entire area. Make your way up to the walkway of the bridge, and you’ll find all three keypads attached to the columns that stick out from the bridge. Interact with each one, and then extract from the map, as you have to head back to Perimeter to wrap up Data Reconstruction.
Hack (2) exterior Data Repositories in North or South Relay
Back on Perimeter for your final objectives in the contract, go to either North or South Relay, depending on where you spawn when dropping into the run. It doesn’t really matter which location you go to, as the data repositories at either location are fairly easy to find. You just have to follow the markers on your HUD as you approach whichever location you chose.
Download AI maintenance protocol from second floor of Hauler
Once you’re done hacking at either the North or South Relay, make your way to Hauler on the far western side of Perimeter.
Here, you need to download a computer file from the central building in Hauler. Try to make your way around to the northern part of the building and enter through there, as it’s easier to reach the second floor. On the second floor, you need to head into a red-lit room to find the AI maintenance protocol download on a keypad attached to the eastern wall behind some servers.
Once you’ve downloaded the protocol, all you have left to do is extract from the map, and the Data Reconstruction contract is complete.
