Developer Behaviour Interactive has just shared the first gameplay details of Dead by Daylight‘s next DLC Killer, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees. Jason Voorhees is set to join Dead by Daylight‘s ever-growing roster on June 16, though Behaviour has confirmed that he’ll be playable in the game’s Steam public test build from May 26.
Making its debut in 1980 with the iconic Victor Miller-written and Sean S. Cunningham-directed slasher movie, the Friday the 13th franchise has worn a plethora of blood-stained hockey masks over the years. Along with its 12 feature films, the Friday the 13th franchise has also branched out into the worlds of TV, novels, comic books, and of course, video games, with the most recent Friday the 13th game being IllFonic’s ill-fated Friday the 13th: The Game, which released in 2017 but was delisted in 2023.

Dead by Daylight’s Jason Voorhees Will Deliver a “Bone-Chilling Blend of Stealth, Scares and Brutality”
Jason Voorhees will head to Dead by Daylight on June 16 as the shining star of the game’s 49th paid DLC Chapter. While Jason was beaten to the starting line by fellow horror icons like Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jigsaw, Pinhead, Chucky, and many more, it isn’t for a lack of trying on Behaviour Interactive’s part. Since Dead by Daylight‘s launch 10 years ago, its developers have tried repeatedly to get Jason in the asymmetrical horror game. Behaviour Senior Creative Director Dave Richard had this to say about finally achieving this decade-long goal:
“There was never a question that our 10th Anniversary Chapter couldn’t just be big – it needed to be something really special. When we started to see a path to finally making this partnership a reality for our 10th, we knew then the perfect Jason moment had come. We’re just thrilled the stars aligned and we were able to work with the great folks at Jason Universe to deliver this for our players on such a major milestone for Dead by Daylight.”

According to an official press release, Dead by Daylight‘s Jason Voorhees will deliver a “bone-chilling blend of stealth, scares and brutality.” He’ll achieve this through two primary Killer Powers, the first of which is called ‘Omnipresent Evil.’ Activating Omnipresent Evil will cause Jason to vanish from the map entirely, with his whereabouts only being perceptible to Survivors as a faint red fog. While invisible, Jason can track Survivors via visual cues like footprints. When Jason is ready to reappear, he simply needs to target a key environmental area like a pallet or breakable wall and hit the button again. Reappearing will destroy breakable obstacles and trigger a scream from any nearby Survivors, thus revealing their location briefly.
The second of Jason Voorhees’ Dead by Daylight Killer Powers is called ‘Improvised Carnage.’ When Survivors come up against Jason, they’ll spot special containers scattered around the map. These containers are filled with broken generator parts, misshapen hooks, and a variety of other makeshift projectiles that Jason can pick up and hurl at his prey with unrelenting force. Hitting a Survivor with one of these projectiles will stagger them, but if they’re hit next to a wall, they’ll be pinned to it.

The Jason Collection
Dead by Daylight‘s Jason Voorhees will arrive on June 16 alongside a handful of paid cosmetics. The ‘Jason Collection’ bundle will feature at least three additional outfits for Jason, those being the Backwoods Terror costume, the Death Forsaken outfit, and the Depths of Despair skin, all three of which give the iconic slasher villain a distinct, themed makeover.
