Dead Or Alive 6 Last Round Fans Can’t Believe Wild DLC Situation

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round, Koei Tecmo’s re-release of its now delisted 2019 fighting game Dead or Alive 6, was released to Mostly Negative reviews on Steam on June 25, with fans complaining about everything from unfixed bugs, which were present in the original release of the game, to being forced to repurchase content they already own.

The $40 re-release of Dead or Alive 6 comes packaged with five extra characters, some graphical improvements, a new photo mode… and not much else. At the very least, fans expected Dead or Alive 6 Last Round to add rollback netcode to the game, as, in 2026, that’s considered a standard addition for any fighting game.

However, if what’s on offer isn’t enough for you, the Steam storefront currently features 440 individual pieces of DLC for the new game. On the one hand, that’s not quite as bad as it might sound, as several of those 440 DLCs are packaged versions of other DLCs. Plus, a lot of the DLCs, such as the DLC characters, are actually included in Dead or Alive 6 Last Round, and are only featured on the store page as options for players who have downloaded the free version of the game: Dead or Alive 6 Last Round Core Fighters.

But, on the other hand, the fact that a sizeable chunk of those DLCs aren’t included in the full $40 version of the game, and are simply carryovers from the 2019 version of Dead or Alive 6, is pretty insulting. Worse still, although Dead or Alive 6 Last Round will transfer content you owned in the original game over to the new version, some of the old content can’t be transferred at all.

As spotted by GameSpot, two DLC characters from the original game, Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, will have to be repurchased even if you already own them, seemingly as a result of licensing issues. As these two characters are from the King of Fighters franchise, owned by SNK, it would seem that Koei Tecmo’s hands are tied in this regard. While that may lead you to blame SNK for this issue, it’s important to note that, since the game was re-released, all DLC characters’ prices have increased from $8 to $11.

And, as if things couldn’t get worse, players have also noticed that certain costumes from the original Dead or Alive 6 can’t be purchased in Dead or Alive 6 Last Round. There is a way to get around this issue, however. If you boot up the original 2019 versions of Dead or Alive 6, you can purchase these costumes there and then transfer them… which would be fine, except Koei Tecmo delisted those versions of the game on June 11. If you don’t already own one of the original versions of the game, it seems as if these costumes are permanently inaccessible.
