Delisted Tactical Shooter Game Returns to Steam, and It’s Now Free

H-Hour: World’s Elite was delisted from Steam in 2023, but it has suddenly returned in 2026 as a completely free-to-play game. Initially released in 2015, H-Hour: World’s Elite generated considerable hype because it was advertised as a spiritual successor to the popular SOCOM series on PlayStation. However, it had a rough launch on Steam, and the developer ultimately requested its removal. Now, the game has made a surprise comeback.

David Sears, who worked as the creative director on the SOCOM franchise, led H-Hour: World’s Elite during its early days. And since the SOCOM series was exclusive to PlayStation, many PC users saw H-Hour as a proper replacement that could scratch the same itch. However, things didn’t go exactly as planned for this indie tactical shooter.

9/10 Co-Op Shooter Game on Steam Is Now Permanently Free

A distinctive co-op shooter with overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews is now available at no cost, and anyone can download and enjoy it.

H-Hour: World’s Elite Revived as a Free Game

On October 7, a new official Steam Community post announced, “After three years, H-Hour: World’s Elite is back on Steam as a free game.” At one point, the game cost about $25, making the switch to free-to-play even more significant. However, the base game isn’t the only thing making a comeback. According to the announcement, Steam users can also download the Custom Workshop Maps DLC at no extra cost, allowing them to play in community-created environments.

As for the gameplay, H-Hour is described as a one-life third-person shooter that places a strong emphasis on strategy. The game has no respawn mechanic, making the loss of a teammate a devastating blow to the entire team each round. That said, some modes feature standard respawn mechanics, similar to those in mainstream multiplayer shooters. Most matches in H-Hour are 8v8, with 16 players in total, and the game offers several modes, including Elimination, Demolition, Breach, Sabotage, Suppression, and Hostage Extraction.

Fans may notice that H-Hour: World’s Elite has mixed reviews on Steam. This is largely because the game was abandoned after launch, with many reports of hackers spamming lobbies with malicious or inappropriate content. Since then, a small group of dedicated tactical shooter fans has tried to maintain the game and keep it alive, addressing some of its issues on the active servers. However, it remains to be seen whether these efforts, along with the move to free-to-play, can help restore H-Hour‘s reputation.

New Open-World Co-Op Survival Game Officially Confirmed for December 2026

Although H-Hour was not a massive success for developer SOF Studios, it remains an important part of the history of third-person shooter games on PC. Many would agree that keeping the game available and playable after all these years is better than shelving it and letting it join the ranks of forgotten games.

H-Hour: World’s Elite is no longer officially supported by the developer and will not receive any further updates. The game remains playable thanks to a dedicated community that runs four servers at the time of writing. Fans can find more information about server activity on H-Hour‘s community-created website.
