After announcing that the vaulted Destiny 2 content would be coming back in September, Bungie is readying a big announcement to reveal the timeline for what fans can expect to see. The past few months have certainly sent Destiny 2 fans through a wide range of emotions, from a well-received update, sadness about the game seemingly coming to an end, and then hope as the franchise makes a comeback.
Following a strange content delay in the first half of the year, fans were left dismayed with the news that Destiny 2 had reached its final content update with the Monuments of Triumph. While Bungie threw just about everything it could into that update, the fanbase seemingly never wavered and took every opportunity to remind Sony that fans wanted more from the franchise. That persistence, as well as the consistent player numbers in Destiny 2 following the final update, seemed to be enough to convince leadership that it is a franchise worth investing in. Part of that process is bringing the lost content back, and it seems Bungie is nearly ready to give fans those important details.
Destiny 2 Unvaulting Details Coming Soon
In September, fans were surprised to see an update from Studio Head Poria Torkan and Head of Product and General Manager of Marathon Josh Deane. The duo held an honest conversation about the state of Bungie and its games, confirming the Destiny franchise will live on and confirming plans to bring back all the currently vaulted Destiny 2 content. However, the update also warned that the process for bringing it back isn’t simple and will require time to make happen.

While the unvaulting news was a huge moment for Destiny 2 fans, they were left hanging a bit about what to expect and when. Thankfully, it seems the wait for news is nearly over as Josh Deane took to social media to give fans a small update. Responding to a fan, Deane revealed that Bungie is “looking at next week to queue up the update” for the Destiny 2 unvaulting process. While there wasn’t an exact date, Deane previously provided a bit of context for what fans could expect, explaining that the process will be very intentional and, instead of a traditional roadmap, Bungie would likely frame it as a sort of progress bar to show a bit more transparency.
Even with the unvaulting wait almost over, there’s an air of excitement surrounding Bungie these days. As Marathon begins its own transformation over these next few months, it seems that Bungie is hiring again thanks to newly discovered job listings, a positive sign after the studio suffered major layoffs just a few months ago. Part of it is likely the uptick in work, both for providing Destiny 2 new updates and longer-term work on the franchise, but it could also signify that something more could be in the works at the studio.
Rumors continue to swirl around Bungie and what it may have cooking up in development. There have been plenty of teases about a potential Destiny Classic or Remastered style game, but there could be a bigger opportunity on the horizon if the rumors are true. Recently, insider Jeff Grubb reported that Bungie could be in talks to make Star Wars Battlefront 3 following the previous license agreement with EA seemingly expiring. While Bungie’s FPS expertise could be a very good fit for the Battlefront series, the Star Wars IP has seen a strong gaming resurgence as of late, thanks to well-received titles like Zero Company and Galactic Racer.
