With the weekly reset, Destiny 2 kicks off Guardian Games 2026, an annual event that pits all three classes against one another by taking part in unique modes, earning medals, and obtaining unique loot. Despite there being a lot of uncertainty surrounding Destiny 2, and its immediate future, Bungie is keeping to its annual schedule, bringing back Guardian Games as part of its seasonal rotating events, including the likes of Solstice, The Dawning, and Festival of the Lost.
Destiny 2 has entered a rough patch as of late, following the end of the decade-long story involving the Light and Darkness saga. Bungie pivoted last Summer with the launch of The Edge of Fate, intending to bring the game into a new era, though many of the changes and overhauls made, such as the Portal, did not live up to fan expectations. Unfortunately for Bungie, player numbers continued to drop, even with December’s Renegades expansion being generally well received. As fans continue to wait for Bungie to address Destiny 2‘s future, the studio has brought back the 2026 edition of Guardian Games.
Destiny 2 Loses 91% Of Its Player Count in Less Than a Year
Destiny 2 struggles to retain its player base following the release of its Edge of Fate expansion pack, but the bad news don’t stop there.
Destiny 2 Guardian Games Event Details
Guardian Games represents Destiny 2‘s take on the Olympics, as Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans battle it out to earn the most medals to earn a big trophy for their class displayed at The Tower over the next year. The latest version of the event kicks off today, March 24 and runs through the next 3 weeks, coming to a close on April 14. For this year, players will likely notice that Guardian Games is now using Destiny 2‘s Event Home feature, centralizing the area where players can see information like challenges and rewards.
In fact, Guardian Games is bringing plenty of rewards for players to earn, including an event track filled with the likes of a new shader, ship, emblem, Ghost Shell, and special holofoil weapons. Specifically, Guardian Games exclusive weapons can also be earned by playing Portal activities and banking medals. Players can earn the following:
- Triple Laureate: Stasis spreadshot Hand Cannon
- The Beacon: Solar rapid fire Fusion Rifle
- Keraunios: Arc adaptive frame Trace Rifle
In addition to earning medals through Portal activities, Bungie is bringing back a remixed version of Rushdown, last seen during the 2025 edition of the Guardian Games in Destiny 2. This year’s version completely randomizes the boss encounters, which aims to keep players guessing. Even with daily boss rotations, players can also go back and play the original version of Rushdown if they want as well.

Destiny 2‘s Vanguard Orders system is also getting an update as well, with “Rare” quality orders being added focused on Guardian Games. These Rare challenges will award 50 Bright Dust upon completion, before the 1000 weekly thresh hold, and then awards only 10 after. Players can only hold 1 Rare order at a time, but another Rare quality challenge will replace it once the initial one has been completed. It’s likely that fans will want to earn as much Bright Dust as they can based on some new gear being added to the game.
Bungie has also added eye-catching armor sets for each class, which are available at the Eververse in-game store for 6,000 Bright Dust or the premium Destiny 2 currency known as Silver. In addition, Bungie also announced a collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, bringing armor sets inspired by Magic the Gathering‘s Planeswalkers including the Flamecaller based on Chandra Naalar, Mindsculptur for Jace Beleren, and Death’s Majesty for Liliana Vess. There are also plenty of other cosmetic items for purchase based on Magic the Gathering, like the Promised End Exotic Ghost Shell, Grand Praetor Exotic Ship, and more.
