Bungie is bringing back the vaulted parts of Destiny 2, including its Red War campaign from the game’s launch, the studio announced today. The plan was revealed as part of an update on the state of Bungie and its main franchises, with the team calling Destiny “foundational to Bungie’s future.”
The studio announced on September 21 that one of its main goals moving forward is to “build a stronger long-term future for Destiny, while honoring and restoring its past.” While Bungie didn’t confirm whether that means any new content is coming to the sci-fi MMO after the controversial decision to sunset it was announced back in June, it will at least be getting back all of its older content that was previously cut to make room for newer expansions. This includes bringing back vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations, and raids, and making them available to all players seemingly for free.

There’s no timetable for these new updates, and it sounds like it will be a pretty substantial undertaking. “Bringing this content back is not as simple as restoring old files,” the studio wrote. “Changes made to Destiny 2 since Beyond Light require us to update lighting, encounters, combatants, and other underlying systems. That work will take time, but it is necessary to ensure returning content meets the stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today.”
What is clear is that the uproar over the end of Destiny 2, including a fan petition with over 400,000 signatures, has made Bungie pay attention. “When we announced that Monuments of Triumph would be the final content update to Destiny 2, you responded in force,” the developers wrote today. “Your voices mattered, and the way you showed up made a real impact. You reminded everyone how much this world, its history, and its future still mean to you.”
