Diablo 4 Season 11’s Combat Update May Want to Take Notes from ARC Raiders

Diablo 4 Season 11’s Combat Update May Want to Take Notes from ARC Raiders

Season 11 of Diablo 4 is finally right around the corner, and with it come big changes to how enemy combat is handled. For the past two years, Diablo 4 has seen a variety of changes and updates, but the promise of more dynamic enemy encounters could prove to be a breath of fresh air.

Anticipation for Diablo 4 Season 11 has been building, and earlier this week, Blizzard finally lifted the veil on everything players can expect when the season launches in just a few days. Titled “Season of Divine Intervention,” Diablo 4 brings Azmodan front and center as the new world boss, but beyond the powerful demon, every enemy is going to be more challenging from now on. Once the season launches, it will be interesting to see how much more difficult Diablo 4‘s monsters have become, and while it’s a very different game, ARC Raiders is hopefully serving as a source of inspiration.

Diablo 4‘s Season of Divine Intervention is scheduled to launch on December 11 at 8:30 PM Pacific Standard Time.

Diablo 4’s New Monster Combat Promises More Adaptive Enemy Types

One of the keywords that Blizzard’s Season 11 rundown mentions multiple times is “adapt.” Instead of enemy movements becoming predictable over time, Diablo 4‘s monsters and how they behave are teasing situations that require players to be on their toes more. When enemy movement becomes too predictable, it’s easy for players to simply go through the motions, and Season 11 aims to do away with that.

What to Expect From Diablo 4’s Enemy Changes

  • Improved behavior that causes enemies to adapt and react to players.
  • Roles for each monster will be clearer.
  • Monsters that have affixes will now be more deadly.
  • Fewer group formations to avoid clearing out enemies in clusters.
  • 20+ new monster affixes
  • Elite enemies will spawn minions that inherit a portion of their affixes.

Overall, it’s clear that these changes intend to heighten the challenge, but they could also hopefully plant the seeds for Diablo 4 to take note of ARC Raiders‘ enemy mechanics. Diablo 4‘s enemies being able to adapt more is definitely in line with ARC Raiders‘ ruthless enemy types, but the latter is far more complex, since the extraction shooter uses Machine Learning to make its ARCs feel incredibly lifelike.

Season 11 also marks the return of Leaderboards and the addition of The Tower, a timed dungeon with multiple stages. While these features are included in Season 11, they won’t arrive until early 2026 with update 2.5.2.

ARC Raiders’ Immersive Enemy Mechanics Should Inspire Games Outside Its Genre

Action RPGs and extraction shooters are worlds apart when it comes to gameplay, but that doesn’t mean the two genres can’t learn from one another. ARC Raiders has been one of the biggest hits of the year, and if Blizzard can use any of the game’s proven methods for its own gain, then it should. Since Diablo 4‘s next season is almost here, it will be fascinating to see how the game’s adaptable enemies compare to the likes of ARC Raiders‘ robotic threats. In a way, ARC Raiders has set a new standard for what to expect when words like “adapt” are used to describe enemies. Season 11 may not have the same degree of enemy adaptability as ARC Raiders, but hopefully, it’s a great start.

Since the two games are part of incredibly different genres, Diablo 4‘s version of adaptable enemies will look different regardless, but it will be quite exciting if this combat update is the stepping stone to something even more dynamic and layered. Blizzard has been teasing 2026 plans, and once Season 11 is underway, it will be exciting to find out what else the game has in store for players.
