It’s still fairly early into Diablo 4 Season 14, which launched at the very end of June, but everything is pointing towards the Rogue being the best class so far. After it was also the dominant class for most of Diablo 4 Season 13, it seems that the Rogue is the strongest option for the endgame right now.

Balance changes are par for the course in Diablo 4. Every season, Blizzard tends to make significant changes to the meta, helping keep the endgame feeling fresh every season. This means that even experienced players who play through every season still have something to look forward to without getting bored. The pattern can be predictable at times – new Diablo 4 classes tend to be overpowered on release, which ensures that players have a great time with the fresh additions. In that respect, last season’s underpowered Warlock was something of a shock, and many felt that Blizzard would buff the class to finally give it a season in the spotlight.

Rogue as Diablo 4 Season 14’s Best Class Again is a Big Shock

The Helltides Pit and Tower leaderboards offer a good indicator of the best Diablo 4 class for any given season. Whatever class is clearing both endgame activities the quickest and at the highest difficulties, tends to be the best, at least in the current meta. For Diablo 4 Season 14, that class is the Rogue. In the Pit, three classes (Rogue, Spiritborn, and Druid) have completed runs at Tier 150, but the Rogue’s best run comes in at seven minutes faster than anything the other two have achieved so far. And for the Tower, the Rogue is the only one to have completed Tier 150 at the time of writing, with the Druid next closest at Tier 147.

The reason that this comes as such a shock is that it’s rare that a class will be on top of these leaderboards two seasons in a row. The Rogue was the best endgame Diablo 4 class for most of Season 13, and it took the entire season for others to catch up and put up similar times in the Pit and the Tower. And given that the new Warlock was underpowered, many felt that it was inevitable that Blizzard would give it a significant buff to help finally give it the love it deserves. Instead, it looks set to be another huge season for the Rogue, which is certainly a surprise.

It’s worth noting that declaring a definitive best class for Diablo 4 Season 14 right now would be a little premature. Blizzard has been known to release mid-season balance updates, which can shake up the meta a little and help the worse classes catch up. This has yet to happen for Season 14, but don’t rule it out.

The reception for Diablo 4 Season 14 has been mixed, to say the least. After the impressive Lord of Hatred debut (and similarly well-received seasons in the months prior), Blizzard was on something of a hot streak with the game, but Season 14 has faced its share of criticism from players. The developer has already released the first set of significant update patch notes for Diablo 4 Season 14, with the update set to go live on July 14. Hopefully, it goes some way to addressing player complaints so far.
