Blizzard has officially confirmed that an animated Diablo Netflix adaptation is on the way. Very little is known about the Diablo TV series at the moment, but it’s a landmark moment for the franchise as it expands beyond the world of video games.
Diablo is one of Blizzard’s biggest franchises, with a history spanning all the way back to 1996. Despite its three-decade-long lifespan, Blizzard has only released four mainline games in the Diablo series, the latest of which was released in 2023. Each has been massively successful, and Blizzard has embraced a seasonal content model in recent releases to keep each game alive for years on end. This ongoing support has been the backbone of Diablo in recent years, with Diablo 4 set to release Season 15 on September 15.
Diablo is Officially Getting an Animated Netflix Adaptation
During the opening ceremony for BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard president Johanna Faries took to the stage to announce the Netflix Diablo TV adaptation, confirming that the animated series is currently in development. According to Faries, Diablo is just the beginning of Blizzard’s expansion beyond video games, and she also teased projects for Overwatch, Warcraft, and “perhaps some of our other universes,” saying “there are great discussions being had,” but she “can’t spill the beans just yet.”
Blizzard’s official description for Diablo‘s animated series on Netflix says, “After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens.” More details on the project will be shared in the future, and it remains to be seen whether fans will hear any more at BlizzCon 2026.
Interestingly, this actually marks Netflix’s second attempt at a Diablo TV show. The first attempt was leaked in 2020, but eventually fell through when Blizzard sued Netflix for allegedly poaching its Chief Financial Officer, Spencer Neumann. While that relationship may have soured, it’s good to see that the two have worked past their differences to finally bring the Diablo animated series to life.
It’s going to be an exciting BlizzCon for Diablo fans. With the newly announced Netflix Diablo show, it’s already off to a great start, but Blizzard is also expected to offer up details about Diablo 4 Season 15, which is set to launch on September 15.
