[Update 5/8: As of 2:07 PM PST, Discord appears to be back up and running normally. The original story follows.]
Discord is currently unavailable to the millions of users who regularly take advantage of its online messaging services. The social platform allows people worldwide to communicate via text, voice, and video has been around since 2015 and, in that time, has grown to be the go-to service for huge numbers of people. As of 2026, Discord boasts nearly 260 million monthly active users and more than double that number in registered users, and it’s estimated that a whopping 37 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 34 actively use the platform.
To keep up with the massive amount of users every month, Discord has over 32 million servers located around the world. Its services are available on a variety of platforms, including web browsers and separate apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and even Linux. In the gaming space, it’s the go-to location for meeting up with likeminded individuals who are passionate about the same titles and developers. It serves as an active place to build communities, make friends, and easily communicate while playing.
“We Want To Get This Right” Discord Delays Controversial Age Verification Rollout
Days before Discord was set to begin enforcing its divisive age verification measures globally, the company announces a delay amid user backlash.
Discord Server Status
As of the time of writing, Discord servers are down. Attempting to access the service in a web browser leads to an error screen that simply says, “Something went wrong!” The official app on various platforms simply loads with a message about API errors and the statement: “We are continuing to remediate the issues impacting availability of some Discord users.” Some users are reporting that, the regular interface does load after several minutes of waiting, but switching to different servers is problematic and iffy.
We will update this article as soon as Discord’s services have been fully restored.
