Divinity Announcement Has Driven Way More People To Larian’s Previous Games

Divinity Announcement Has Driven Way More People To Larian’s Previous Games

The announcement of Divinity at The Game Awards 2025 had a positive effect on the sales of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Swen Vincke, CEO of developer Larian Studios, confirmed this in a post on X in response to someone impressed that Baldur’s Gate 3 hit over 110,000 concurrent players on January 18. Vincke says the sales have been “incredible” for Larian’s legacy titles since Divinity’s announcement, with Divinity: Original Sin 2 in particular having its best month since it launched in 2017.

Sales for both BG3 and D:OS 2 have been incredible since the announcement of Divinity.

D:OS 2 really surprised us by having its best month since release in 2017. Wish I’d removed the squirrel in time 🙂 https://t.co/fXTEUtuS7r

Divinity was one of the biggest announcements from The Game Awards 2025. Baldur’s Gate 3’s breakout success and a mysterious pre-show tease with a statue in the Californian desert certainly got people intrigued by whatever the studio was doing next. Even Vincke’s controversial statements about AI have kept Divinity in the gaming zeitgeist since its initial announcement.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has the benefit of being Larian’s most recent game, and it was discounted during the Steam Winter Sale that happened shortly after The Game Awards 2025. Meanwhile, Divinity: Original Sin 2 has a more direct connection to the Divinity franchise. Native PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of it were also released in December, giving current-gen players an easy on-ramp into the series.

It seems like this confluence of factors has convinced people to check out Larian Studios’ back catalog of games. The studio’s CEO certainly seems quite happy about that.
