DLSS 5, Nvidia’s groundbreaking new generative AI upscaling tool that makes every game look horrifying and cuts your performance in half, leaked online last week, and the modding community has been applying the tech to every video game they can get their hands on.
The results so far have varied between underwhelming slop at best and, at worst, genuine nightmare fuel, but it seems that the most unsettling example of what the tech is capable of may not even involve video games, as modders have recently figured out that DLSS 5 can be applied to literally any moving image…which naturally means that the next step was seeing what kind of damage it could to the human body.
Developer jpneagle recently showcased a demo for a new real-time DLSS 5 filter, which allows you to use Nvidia’s leaked Deep Learning Super Sampling upscaling tech in tandem with a webcam.

If you’ve ever been curious about what you’d look like if you were riddled with jaundice, then great news: jpneagle has made their work available through GitHub—although he did politely warn users that the “DLSS5 related files are not included,” and to “please make sure to obtain them ‘legally.’”
Turns out that jpneagle isn’t the only one who’s been messing around with real-life DLSS 5 application, as a user by the name of Samuel Cardillo on X has also shown off how easy it is to apply the filter to your face using OBS.

While he seemed impressed with the filter, stating that it “basically gives professional lighting,” I think it’s done the poor guy dirty, as, for whatever reason, DLSS 5 decided to give him some very accentuated crow’s feet in his demonstration.
Ultimately, however, while it is funny that using it on a real person produces better results than applying it to the the video game characters it was actually designed for, it’s not doing anything that your standard camera filter already couldn’t. But hey, at least Nvidia can go into business with Snapchat if the whole destroying-the-RAM-market thing doesn’t work out for them in the long run.
