A new teaser suggests that the upcoming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 may feature a brand-new relative of franchise protagonist Son Goku. Xenoverse 3‘s new character, Brett, is rumored to be Goku’s descendant from two centuries in the future.
The Dragon Ball franchise’s return to the Xenoverse games will be the first new entry in the fighting game subseries in a decade. The last Xenoverse game launched was Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in October 2016, with Dimps and Bandai Namco releasing multiple DLC packs for the game following its release. Xenoverse 2 has received a staggering 19 DLC packs to date, with Future Saga: Chapter 4 recently confirmed as the game’s final DLC, which will launch in Summer 2027. Now, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3‘s newest character may be giving fans a glimpse at the future of Goku’s family.
Why Most DBZ Games Don’t Hold a Candle to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Even Now
It might be time to move on from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, with the last DLC and threequel announcement, but its legacy is uncontested.
Brett May Be Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s Newest Goku Descendant
The official announcement trailer for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 features a particularly notable new member of the game’s cast. Xenoverse 3 will introduce Brett to the playable roster for the first time, acting as a major ally to Xenoverse 3‘s player character. Brett heavily echoes Goku and his family within his character design, featuring multiple similarities from his spiky hair to his martial arts-inspired attire. Brett’s name is also believed to be a play on “bread,” with Goku’s family typically featuring food puns as a part of their name, like Gohan and Pan. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is currently planned to release in 2027.
Xenoverse 3 is set to call back to the origins of the Xenoverse series with its new characters and story. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will likely retain many elements of past games that borrowed from MMORPG Dragon Ball Online, including series antagonists Mira and Towa. The main story of Xenoverse 3 is expected to center heavily around Age 1000, over 200 years after the conclusion of the Buu Saga, consistent with the MMORPG’s setting in the franchise’s distant future. The trailer also showcases multiple iconic members of Dragon Ball‘s cast who will appear in the story of Xenoverse 3, including Bulma and Piccolo.
The launch of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will also be significant as one of the last big projects to feature the franchise’s original creator. Akira Toriyama is said to have been heavily involved with the creation of the cast and world of Xenoverse 3 before his death in 2024, helping to create the world of Dragon Ball‘s Age 1000. Many of the new characters teased for Xenoverse 3 were confirmed to have been designed by Toriyama, with the game expected to serve as one of the most comprehensive looks at the future of the world of Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was far from the only recent announcement for the franchise’s video games from Bandai Namco. The studio officially confirmed an updated version of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, with Super Limit Breaking NEO adding 30 characters, five stages, and a brand-new game mode. Dragon Ball FighterZ also welcomed a new character to its roster on April 22, with the addition of the Daima version of Super Saiyan 4 Goku. Bandai Namco clearly has big things in the works for Dragon Ball, with lots of exciting new releases on the way.
