When it comes to recent Dragon Ball transformations, it’s hard to ignore how loved Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo are, but those can only be so applauded, in part, due to the introduction of Cell Max. The last time fans saw Cell Max, he was defeated by the aforementioned heroes, but now Dragon Ball fans will be able to enjoy his return.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t other things going on in the world of Dragon Ball, however. The Galactic Patrol anime is in production, while a remake of Dragon Ball‘s Beerus arc is in the works. On the gaming front, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 just got its final DLC, hype is building for the release of Xenoverse 3, and Sparking Zero is still getting support. Dragon Ball also has a bunch of mobile games, and Dokkan Battle is among its most popular.

Cell Max Returns in Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle

As officially announced, Cell Max will be making a comeback on July 14 in Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle as a new unit, although it appears not all fans are happy. This is a comeback for Cell Max, marking his second appearance as an LR (Legendary Rare)—the rarest unit in the game. And yet, there’s still no LR Orange Piccolo or even characters like Kid Buu, leading many fans to be upset by this. Still, given the popularity of the entire arc as well as Cell Max, it’s likely this event will be well received. Hopefully, the other LR DBZ characters can also join the game soon.

Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle has tons of players, after all, and so fan demand is nothing to scoff at. Developed by Akatsuki and published by Bandai Namco, DBZ: Dokkan Battle has been around since 2015, and its 11-year tenure definitely speaks to its popularity. At last report, the game had crossed 350 million downloads worldwide and grossed over $3 billion. Some fans might have fatigue with another LR Cell Max, but it’s likely others are excited, and there’s still plenty of time for other DBZ characters to get an LR.

Not to mention, it’s entirely possible Dokkan Battle is intentionally holding back right now. DBZ: Dokkan Battle is one of many anime gacha games, meaning that to get characters, players have to spend in-game currency and pull on a banner. Withholding LRs like Orange Piccolo only builds anticipation for an eventual release, while keeping characters like Kid Buu in the back pocket makes sense, even if fans want them sooner rather than later.

Either way, Cell Max and his entire arc with Gohan and Piccolo is one of the most popular arcs in Dragon Ball Super, even if it’s a bit lacking in some parts and has a bit of a mixed reception in others. If nothing else, it’s because Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo are the best parts and are some of the best Dragon Ball transformations introduced in Super.
