As part of Capcom’s two-year anniversary celebrations for Dragon’s Dogma 2, the developer may have quietly teased a new DLC for the RPG. Gamers have been clamoring for any new Dragon’s Dogma 2 content for a while now, and some eagle-eyed fans are convinced that Capcom has secretly planted some clues that hint towards something on the horizon.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 was released in March 2024, 12 years after the first game in the series. It proved to be worth the wait, and the game was met with strong reviews, garnering an impressive Top Critic Average of 87 on review aggregator site OpenCritic. As positive word-of-mouth about the game spread, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was a success for Capcom, selling millions of copies. Despite impressive sales numbers, the developer never released any post-launch DLC for the game, much to the frustration of its community.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Is Missing One Important Feature From the Original
It’s no secret that Dragon’s Dogma 2 made several changes and improvements to the first game’s formula, but one of its biggest changes is unfortunate.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Anniversary Artwork May Contain DLC Hints
As part of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s second anniversary, Capcom released some artwork depicting a mash-up of characters from the game celebrating in a tavern. At first, the artwork seems to be a fun homage to the open-world RPG, although eagle-eyed fans have quickly noticed that there may be more than meets the eye. A Reddit thread started by user PaiDuck has pointed out a few very important details. Some are easy to miss; others not so much. The first is by far the most obvious – a character standing alone in the back of the image, surrounded by a blue hue which immediately draws attention to them. This mysterious character is facing away from everybody else, and has a unique hairstyle and clothing not currently found in Dragon‘s Dogma 2.
The final potential clue is front and center, a scroll with some Elvish text written on it. Players have already taken it upon themselves to translate this text, revealing that it says, “Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed.” Although the region of Organ is not part of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s lore, the thread highlighted that an unnamed northern region is already mentioned a few times in the base game. Because of these hidden details, many were convinced that this was finally leading to the first piece of DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2. One user described it as being “too conspicuous to be accidental,” but not everyone was convinced. Another fan described hunting through the artwork for these secrets as being part of the “coping cycle,” while some simply thought it was a pretty big stretch and an example of fans seeing what they want to see.
This is in no way confirmation that a new DLC is on the way. Fans have been demanding a Dragon’s Dogma 2 expansion for some time, but Capcom hasn’t spoken about the possibility yet. Gamers should wait for an official comment from the developer to resolve the issue either way. If this artwork isn’t teasing a new DLC for the game, it raises the question of why Capcom would include elements like the Elvish scroll if not to hint at what’s to come.
After the commercial success of Dragon’s Dogma 2, it feels very unlikely that Capcom will simply bury the franchise. Even two years after its release, a DLC feels more likely than a sequel at this point. Equally, fans will hope that any Dragon’s Dogma 2 sequel does not wait 12 years between releases, as the original game did.
