E-Day Achievement May Be The First Xbox Platinum Trophy

E-Day Achievement May Be The First Xbox Platinum Trophy

The first sign of Xbox’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy may be hiding in Gears of War: E-Day, thanks to a mysterious achievement that awards no Gamerscore for earning every other achievement. Gears of War: E-Day is The Coalition’s upcoming prequel starring Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during the first days of the Locust invasion.

The Coalition has now revealed the full achievement list for Gears of War: E-Day, covering everything from the campaign and co-op to Horde Siege, Versus, collectibles, and long-term progression. Players have already had a chance to sample some of Gears of War: E-Day‘s multiplayer through its recent beta, including the new Horde Siege mode and returning Versus competition. Some of the requirements will demand a significant investment, including 25,000 Versus kills, 50,000 Horde Siege kills, reaching the final Re-Up, reaching max level with all four Horde Siege classes, and completing the campaign on Insane difficulty. That already makes Gears of War: E-Day look like a demanding completion for achievement hunters before taking its strangest reward into account.

Gears of War: E-Day Villain Finally Revealed

The Coalition unveils an intense new look at Gears of War: E-Day, shedding some light on the third-person shooter’s antagonist.

At the top of the official Gears of War: E-Day achievements list is an achievement called “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day,” which simply requires players to “Earn all other Achievements.” What makes it unusual is that the reward is worth 0 Gamerscore, meaning it exists as a separate marker for completing everything else rather than helping players toward the game’s total score. That makes it functionally similar to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, which is awarded after unlocking the rest of a game’s required Trophies. Xbox does not identify The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day as a new achievement type, however, so its connection to any wider Xbox feature remains speculation for now.

The timing is what makes the achievement particularly interesting. Xbox has already indicated that more ways to recognize game completions are coming, while CEO Asha Sharma said in August that the team was working on “something for later this year” when asked specifically about a Platinum Trophy equivalent. The company has also spent this year making other improvements to achievements and how completed games are displayed, but it has yet to formally reveal a direct equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy. With E-Day arriving before the end of the year, a zero-point reward specifically for earning every other achievement naturally raises questions about whether players are getting an early glimpse at that system.

There is still a much simpler possibility about what this 0G achievement means. Xbox games have included meta achievements for earning other achievements before, and The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day could simply be something The Coalition created for completionists rather than part of a new platform-wide feature. The 0G value makes it stand out, but the official list presents it alongside every other achievement without a special classification or explanation. Xbox also has not said that its eventual completion reward will literally be a Trophy or even appear as a conventional achievement, so there is not enough evidence yet to call this the first Xbox Platinum with certainty.

If the achievement does turn out to be tied to Xbox’s upcoming completion system, The Coalition would certainly be making players work for it. Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6, and earning The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day means clearing an achievement list that includes finishing the campaign on Insane, completing every side mission, finding hidden items, reaching major progression milestones, mastering Horde Siege classes, and accumulating tens of thousands of multiplayer kills. The timing makes Gears of War: E-Day an intriguing candidate to debut a new kind of completion reward, but until Xbox explains what its Platinum-style feature actually looks like, this mysterious 0G achievement remains a compelling clue rather than confirmation.
