Gears of War: E-Day players should set aside a noticeable amount of storage space on a solid-state drive (SSD) to play the upcoming title from Xbox and The Coalition. Gears of War: E-Day will launch exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X/S on Tuesday, October 6, with early access starting October 1 for users who purchase the Premium Edition.
Unlike previous entries in the Gears of War franchise to date, E-Day is a prequel to The Coalition’s hit shooter series. True to its name, the game recounts the events of Emergence Day, which marked the deadly first encounter between the humans of Sera and the Locust Horde. Gears of War: E-Day went gold on September 18, nearly three weeks before the game’s scheduled launch. Although the game’s main development cycle has concluded, bug fixes and performance updates may still be published during and after launch.
Gears of War: E-Day Requires a Beefy Amount of Storage Space
With preloading now underway ahead of the game’s early access weekend, The Coalition confirmed how much space will be needed to play Gears of War: E-Day. According to the system requirements, PC users should set aside around 120.04 GB of SSD storage, while Xbox console players will need at least 120.5 GB open. Given that Xbox Series X/S consoles have limited internal storage, The Coalition’s newest title will take up a considerable amount of space, which may force some players to delete or remove some games and apps beforehand. Although various storage expansion options are available, the ongoing DRAM storage crisis has caused SSD prices to surge since fall 2025. With no relief in sight for consumers, playing Gears of War: E-Day may be an expensive endeavor.

However, users will have a few options to save storage space when installing Gears of War: E-Day on their PC or console. After starting pre-installation, users can choose whether to install the Campaign, Horde Siege, or Versus modes alongside the base game. In short, users looking to just play E-Day‘s Campaign in co-op or solo mode can avoid installing Horde Siege or Versus altogether. Similar to other first-party Xbox titles like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, players can manage what to install from within the Xbox app on Windows PCs and in system settings on Xbox consoles.

While users will have some control over what to install, playing the PC version of Gears of War: E-Day at the highest settings will still require some pricey system components. Meeting the game’s recommended specifications will require a six-core processor, such as the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or newer, a graphics card with at least 8GB of VRAM, including the popular Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, and at least 16 GB of RAM. Along with ray-tracing and support for HDR and ultrawide monitors, Gears of War: E-Day will also offer DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 3.0t as upscaling options for users to consider.
Gears of War: E-Day will also be one of the first new releases from Xbox Game Studios to support the Mythic Achievements system. As Microsoft’s official counterpart to Sony’s Platinum Trophies, Mythic Achievements are now available for Xbox Insiders to test out.
