EA Cuts Staff At Battlefield 6 Dev After Game's Massive Initial Success

Battlefield 6 broke records for the franchise and was the top-selling game of 2025 in the US, but that apparently wasn’t enough to insulate the dev team from layoffs. EA has laid off staff from across Battlefield Studios, but the exact number of affected employees is currently unknown.

According to IGN, EA characterized the layoffs as a “realignment,” and all four of the studios under the Battlefield Studios banner–DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, Criterion Games, and Motive Studio–will remain open.

“We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community,” said EA in a statement. “Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs.”

A spokesperson sent the same statement to GameSpot.

Although Battlefield 6 lost a significant numbers of players following its launch, the dev team was bullish on Season 2’s roadmap of updates to turn things around. Season 2 was also delayed for fine-tuning, which “broke the pace” of its updates according to producer Phil Girette. Producer Alexia Christofi also noted that the team wouldn’t rush out new maps for Battlefield 6 despite players’ desire for new sandboxes to play in.

It’s unclear how deep the cuts were at Battlefield Studios and if it will affect the team’s ability to release the new content that was promised on the update roadmap. This move also comes at a time when EA is seeking approval for its $55 billion sale to Saudi Arabia’s PIF and other investors.
