EA Game is Shutting Down on June 24

EA Game is Shutting Down on June 24

Plants vs. Zombies HD for Apple has been added to the list of games EA will be shutting down in 2026, with its last date for service planned for June 24. The quirky tower defense under the EA banner has been around since May 2009, but the end of the line is nearing quickly for players on Apple computers and devices.

Despite reaching massive success in the early days of the smartphone era, the Plants vs. Zombies games have had a harder time connecting with fans in recent years. As the latest brand-new entry in the mainline series, Plants vs. Zombies 3 was delisted from iOS and Google Play in November 2024 because it was in need of a major overhaul based on player feedback, receiving only a soft re-launch in 2025.

Plants vs. Zombies Reveals New Graphic Novel [EXCLUSIVE]

Plants vs. Zombies fans have a new graphic novel to look forward to, promising another entertaining story based on the franchise.

  • The Sims Mobile (iOS, Android) – January 20
  • NBA Live 19 (Xbox One, PlayStation 4) – January 30
  • Madden NFL 24 (EA Play Pro, EA Play List) – February 17
  • Real Racing 3 (Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook) – March 20

Upcoming

  • F1 23 (EA Play) – April 15
  • Kingdoms of Amalur Demo (EA Play App) – April 16
  • Gone Home (EA Play Pro) – April 27
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition (PlayStation 3) – April 28
  • Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare (PlayStation 3) – April 28

  • Apex Legends (Nintendo Switch) – August 4
  • NHL 22 (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S) – August 31
  • NHL 23 (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S) – August 31

Plants vs Zombies HD has now been added to the list of games that EA will be ending service for in the near future, but it isn’t the only game in the franchise in that group, and the other is coming up on its big farewell soon. On April 28, EA will be shutting down the PlayStation 3 version of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, which was first added to PlayStation in August 2014. Being that it was the first Plants vs. Zombies game featuring third-person shooter gameplay, the genre shift didn’t draw in as many fans as the original tower defense formula, but the game still managed to resonate relatively well with players and critics alike, even earning itself a sequel in 2016.

Although the end of service for two different games within a few months of each other may seem like an ill omen for the Plants vs. Zombies fandom, players probably shouldn’t expect the franchise to be in trouble. In October 2025, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted was released on multiple platforms, giving players a remastered version of the original game with a bunch of extras tacked on for good measure. In addition to improving the visuals, these additional features include a permadeath R.I.P. Mode, a challenging, non-linear Cloudy Day Mode that makes plants go to sleep when rain clouds pass overhead, local co-op and versus multiplayer gameplay, and the ability to speed up gameplay at will.

This year will also see the end of at least seven different EA Sports games, with the potential for more on the horizon. Already, Madden NFL 24 and NBA Live 19 have been shut down on various platforms, with their final days falling on February 17 and January 30, respectively. Upcoming shutdowns of EA’s realistic athletic games have also been announced, including EA Sports FC Tactical on May 7, Madden NFL 23 on July 13, and both the 2022 and 2023 entries in EA’s NHL series, which will both be ending service on current and past-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles on August 31. Additionally, fans of EA’s motorsports games should be prepared to say goodbye to F1 23 on EA Play, as its last day is planned for April 15.

Fans of fantasy combat, sci-fi shooters, and retro mysteries may also want to check EA’s shutdown calendar to make sure their games will still be waiting for them. Rounding out the list of EA games nearing the end of service in 2026 are story-heavy indie walking simulator Gone Home, which leaves the EA Play Pro list on April 27; BioWare action-RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition for PlayStation 3 on April 28, realistic FPS Battlefield Hardline for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on June 22, and the Nintendo Switch version of hero shooter Apex Legends, which is planned for shutdown on August 4. Additionally, the demo version of action-RPG Kingdoms of Amalur will no longer be available on the EA Play App after April 16.
