Plans for an in-development reboot of the popular EA boxing franchise Fight Night have reportedly been shelved internally, quashing hopes of a return for the series. The EA boxing series has been dormant for more than a decade, with no new games since 2011.
The Fight Night franchise was once one of the most popular games in the EA Sports lineup, receiving praise from fans and critics alike. Following the successful release of Fight Night 2004, EA Sports released four more Fight Night games throughout the next seven years, turning the franchise into a mainstay of the company’s roster in the 2000s and early 2010s. Fight Night Champion served as the most recent entry in the series in 2011, which featured a darker setting and became the first EA Sports game to receive a Mature rating by the ESRB. Now, a new report suggests that a reboot of Fight Night has been officially canceled by EA.
EA Has Reportedly Shelved Fight Night Reboot
A new report suggests that a planned reboot of the Fight Night series has been shelved internally by EA Sports. The decision was reportedly made sometime in 2025, with work on the new Fight Night game already paused at the time the studio decided to scrap the reboot. Previous reports had suggested that EA intended to debut the reboot sometime after the release of EA Sports UFC 6, with the reboot even said to have cleared the pre-production stage of development at one point. Details about any gameplay or finished content for the shelved Fight Night game were not shared in the report.

Fight Night‘s shelved reboot comes as EA Sports already has a major combat sports brand within its library. While not releasing annually like many of the studio’s other franchises, EA Sports UFC has become a mainstay of the company’s lineup, typically launching new games every two to three years. The most recent entry, UFC 6, introduced the new Flow State mechanic to encourage players to make the in-game fighters more closely match their real-world counterparts, rewarding fans for replicating the fighter’s style. UFC 6 also features a sizable roster of more than 200 UFC fighters, including both modern stars like Ciryl Gane and Tom Aspinall and legends like Tank Abbott and Conor McGregor.
While EA Sports canceled its plans for a Fight Night reboot, EA’s acquisition by Saudi Arabia could spell changes for the franchise’s future. The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund officially completed its purchase of EA on August 4, with the PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners spending $55 billion to acquire the company. Saudi Arabia has also heavily invested in boxing in recent years, hosting high-profile matches between stars like Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and even a 2023 match between YouTuber Jake Paul and Tommy Fury.
The shelving of a Fight Night reboot still leaves EA with a plethora of properties under its umbrella. EA Sports easily stands as one of the biggest players in the sports gaming industry, including annual franchises for the NFL and NHL, as well as European association football with EA Sports FC. EA Sports also revived its College Football franchise in 2024, most recently releasing College Football 27 in July 2026. Fans may have to wait even longer to see EA Sports make its return to the boxing ring, but the company has no shortage of other sports games to tide them over.
