Elden Ring Dev Could Have Big Game Awards Announcement Planned

Elden Ring Dev Could Have Big Game Awards Announcement Planned

While most associate FromSoftware with its Souls series and now Elden Ring, the developer also has another prized franchise that has its own set of ravenous fans. And for those fans, there could be some potentially exciting news on the horizon.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon received an update on SteamDB today, which has fans speculating about what that could mean. With The Game Awards a little over a week away, and FromSoftware known for partnering with Geoff Keighley on many of its reveals, there is the possibility that Armored Core 6 might have something to show during the broadcast.

While SteamDB is not a pirating website, it isn’t always an indicator of new content being added to games. Sometimes the “new content” is a patch or a store refresh, something that requires an update for the PC game’s file. Other times, it’s merely nothing – the developers adding a line of text to seemingly hint at DLC, when there are no plans to add anything. Still, Armored Core fans are holding out hope that this could be something, rather than nothing.

FromSoftware and The Game Awards Have a History Together

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon does have a history at The Game Awards, as it was first revealed in 2022. A year later, the title won Best Action Game at the 2023 Game Awards, beating out Dead Island 2, Ghostrunner 2, Hi-Fi Rush, and Remnant II. So there is precedent for Armored Core to make an appearance at The Game Awards, even if the chances are slim.

In truth, Armored Core 6 DLC would likely have been announced by now. The game is now two years old, and besides new parts for PvP multiplayer and a ranked leaderboard, Fires of Rubicon has not seen any major content releases post-launch. The last update for AC 6 was a quick patch to improve hit detection.

Armored Core 6 Deserves its Own ‘Nightreign’

Elden Ring Nightreign is blazing a new trail for FromSoftware’s Soulslikes, but an equivalent game for Armored Core could revive its old strengths.

FromSoftware is fairly consistent when it comes to its DLC/expansion/standalone spin-off rollout plans, as evidenced by the annual cadence of Elden Ring announcements. Coincidentally, Elden Ring: Nightreign was announced at The Game Awards last year, further deepening the partnership between FromSoftware and Geoff Keighley’s show.

The Duskbloods Could Be the Big FromSoft Trailer This Year

If I were to bet money on a FromSoftware announcement at The Game Awards 2025, it would be a new look at The Duskbloods. The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title has been in development since 2019 and was first revealed as part of a Nintendo Direct early this year, and if the game’s announced 2026 release window holds, then we should be seeing more of the game soon. It would make sense both for the timing of the game’s next promotional beat, and for FromSoftware’s continued partnership with The Game Awards.

Two-player PvE co-op in The Duskbloods

But I wouldn’t count out Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon completely. The mech combat series played younger sibling to the Souls and Elden Ring franchises, but it has a dedicated fan base as well. On top of that, FromSoftware has welcomed a massive influx of new fans in the time since the last numbered Armored Core was released in 2012. Many of those who have come to love FromSoft because of Souls, were curious to see what Armored Core was all about.

For those fans, it seems more likely that a proper Armored Core 7 will be announced rather than Armored Core 6 DLC or an expansion a la Nightreign. You can never count out a potential surprise from FromSoftware – the studio has had quite a few unexpected reveals over the last year or so – but this feels like a SteamDB update giving hope when there shouldn’t be any.
