Escape from Tarkov Devs Reveal How Many Total Players Have Hit Max Prestige

The game director of Escape From Tarkov has gone on record by revealing the total number of players to have hit the maximum Prestige rank in the game. The number of objectives necessary to reach a Prestige rank in Escape From Tarkov is significant and asks the player to reach PMC level 47; complete a number of challenging quests; reach high Strength, Endurance, and Charisma skill levels; and obtain 20,000,000 Roubles, just to list a few prerequisites.

The fact that Escape From Tarkov‘s Prestige ranks are locked behind steep time, skill, and in-game currency requirements means most players won’t reach it by default. Further, Prestige works similarly to how it did in the old Call of Duty games, where interacting with the system effectively resets a player’s progress and unlocks some number of exclusive cosmetic goodies. Prestige systems are also inaccessible to offline and PvE Escape From Tarkov players, making them even more of a challenge to attain.

Hit extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov makes some changes to Scav gameplay based on the results of a recently concluded player survey.

A Very Small Number of Escape From Tarkov Players Reached Max Rank Prestige

Escape From Tarkov Game Director Nikita Buyanov revealed on Twitter that only 593 total players have reached the maximum sixth level of Prestige so far. In comparison, just over 24,500 players have gone Prestige at least once, with the number drastically decreasing with each subsequent level of Prestige. Though Escape From Tarkov had a rough 1.0 launch, things have largely stabilized since thanks to developer Battlestate Games’ patching efforts. Still, given how punishingly hardcore Tarkov can get, it’s not a huge surprise that so few players would have taken the time and effort to go after Prestige Rank 6.

The rewards for reaching new Prestige ranks in Escape From Tarkov aren’t something a more casual player would be interested in, for that matter. Examples include exclusive dogtags and armbands, improved Charisma skill level, unique hideout and character customization options, and main menu backgrounds. By and large, the game has been surprisingly careful not to allow Prestige players to grow overpowered with each new run. As Escape From Tarkov is getting new 2026 content, it’s not surprising that there’s a pointed effort to keep even the more casual players roughly in line with the best of the best, at least as far as starting inventories go.

In a broad sense, Battlestate Games may be trying to make Escape From Tarkov slightly easier if anything. The community has enjoyed a series of matchmaking improvements and quality-of-life boons following the game’s 1.0 release in November 2025. Escape From Tarkov remains one of the most hardcore mainstream FPS games on the market. It’s just ever so slightly easier to get into and interact with than it used to be. The game has historically struggled to maintain a healthy number of newcomers, so it’s a good thing that BSG is still trying to draw more people in, even a decade after Tarkov first launched in an unfinished, early access state.

Though Battlestate Games remains laser-focused on Escape From Tarkov as far as anyone can tell, Nikita Buyanov himself is diversifying. The Tarkov developer teased a new sci-fi shooter COR3 early in 2026, with the premise being that it’s set in 2251 following large-scale destruction of human cities on Mars. Precious little is known about COR3 otherwise short of its setting and Buyanov’s involvement, but it’s likely to share at least some of Escape From Tarkov‘s iconic DNA.
