Last Epoch‘s latest season is set to arrive next month, and with it comes a treasure trove of new features and overall improvements that are bound to make the action RPG an even stronger experience. As fellow action RPGs Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 continue to evolve, Last Epoch finds itself ready to step into its next chapter, as well.
When it comes to this genre, Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 are often looked at as the main competitors, but Last Epoch has the upper hand on both titles for several reasons. When it comes to Diablo 4, Last Epoch boasts better customization, crafting systems, and an overall more rewarding loot system. On the flip side, Last Epoch is more approachable than Path of Exile 2‘s steep learning curve. In many ways, Last Epoch is the perfect middle ground, and its upcoming Season 4 is bringing even more to the table. Last Epoch‘s Shattered Omens update is taking gameplay up a notch, and the wait won’t be too much longer.
Last Epoch Season 4, Shattered Omens, is slated to launch on March 26.
Every New Feature Coming to Last Epoch in Season 4, Shattered Omens
- Omen Windows
- Echo Chains
- Idol Altars
- Corrupted Items
- New Rogue skills
- Animation improvements
Omen Windows
Omen Windows are the first major change coming to Last Epoch. These are fractures in the fabric of reality that are created from The Observer’s deep sadness: “Shattering an Omen Window unleashes an Omen, an entity of pure void, born from the Observer’s madness.” Omen Windows sounds harrowing enough on their own, but the real action starts when players engage with these tears in reality. Once the Omen Window is broken, an onslaught of enemies will attack in addition to the more challenging Omen. Last Epoch Season 3 brought forth plenty of strong upgrades, but Omen Windows are kicking up the action and difficulty to even greater levels.

Echo Chains
Echo Chains are an added layer to Last Epoch‘s Monolith system. These Echo Chains are a sequential series of linked Echoes that will pave the way for different, higher-difficulty ones to emerge that boast even better rewards. According to developer Eleventh Hour Games, the linked Echoes “revolve around specific mechanics.” Last Epoch players who have been craving a bigger endgame challenge have Echo Chains to look forward to.
Each action sets off an unstoppable cascade of reactions. Choose yours wisely, Traveler.
Idol Altars
This new item type is connected directly to Omens. When defeated, some Omens will drop Idol Altars that are intended to bring more dynamic depth to builds. Idol Altars will get their own slot above the Idol inventory, which modifies the Idol. Making the best build in Last Epoch can take a lot of trial and error, and the addition of Idol Altars looks to be a compelling shake-up to how players approach their builds.
Corrupted Items
Idol Altars aren’t the only new item type coming to Last Epoch‘s new season. The new Runes of Corruption will allow players to corrupt any item that can be equipped. Even Idols can be Corrupted. As exciting as Runes of Corruption are, though, they are also incredibly unpredictable.
Two New Skills For Rogues to Try Out
As the name suggests, Bladestorm is a skill that throws a barrage of spinning blades at a desired target. These blades will hit enemies three times per second, inflicting some serious damage. Shadow Rend is an incredibly cool skill where a Rogue briefly manifests a shadow in their previous position. While the Rogue can continue attacking, the shadow will perform its own bow or meleeattack. So, those who have an affinity for playing as a Rogue in Last Epoch have two new skills to try out once Season 4 launches.
Upgraded Animations and Quality of Life Improvements Bring Even More to Last Epoch’s Exciting List of Season 4 Changes
When it comes to the better animation that’s on the way, this upgrade is being directed at Last Epoch‘s Primalist. Primalist is one of Last Epoch‘s most fascinating Class options, but it has definitely needed some animation upgrades. Thankfully, Season 4 is going to finally make that happen. The Primalist combat animations are getting a major overhaul that aims to bring a smoother feel to players. Eleventh Hour Games promises better animations that will feel more “lethal” and be clearer to discern. The new and improved Primalist animations will hopefully prove to be a big game-changer for the players who are fond of this Class but have found the visuals lacking.
Last Epoch is Teasing a Deep Well of Quality of Life Improvements
Right now, Eleventh Hour Games has only revealed a few of the improvements that players can expect from the Season 4 update. The confirmed quality of life improvements include more reactive enemies that respond better to attacks, updates to the Loot Filter, and a new tutorial to make Crafting in Last Epoch even better. These three changes are exciting enough, but Eleventh Hour Games has confirmed that this isn’t all that Season 4 has to offer players. The developer is keeping other improvements a secret, but Season 4’s official rundown on the Last Epoch website promises “much more.” That implies a lot of tweaks, so it’s going to be fascinating to see what other changes come to Last Epoch in just a few weeks. Eleventh Hour Games may choose to reveal more ahead of Shattered Omens’ launch, but that remains to be seen.
There is already a lot to unpack with these teased changes, so it will be interesting to see if Last Epoch features any other unannounced changes in Shattered Omens. Last Epoch has come a long way since its early access days, and it’s exciting to see the game continue to evolve and become an even stronger game. Last Epoch is one of the best action RPG games around at the moment, and after Shattered Omens, seeing what features the developers choose to update and add next will be intriguing.
