BlizzCon 2026 is the first time the World of WarCraft maker’s big fan event is back in person since 2023, and the company did not skimp on the news and announcements. From a new StarCraft to Diablo 5, here’s everything we caught a glimpse of during the opening ceremony that kicked off the convention in Anaheim, California.
Heroes of the Storm adds a new character
Blizzard revealed that Xal’atath, the Harbinger of the Void, is coming to the company’s existing MOBA, and she won’t be the only one joining fans in the Nexus. While major new developments were scaled back in 2022, the multiplayer has continued to be supported with new seasonal patches.

We didn’t get a glimpse at it, but an animated show for Diablo will come to the streaming platform at some point. Blizzard hinted that adaptations for Overwatch and World of Warcraft are also in the works.
StarCraft is getting an open-world shooter
The first trailer of BlizzCon 2026 was a cinematic trailer showing off Terran marines going into battle and getting ripped to shreds. The project was introduced by Dan Hay, former head of Far Cry at Ubisoft, who is leading long-rumored spin-off. It’s not slated to arrive until 2030.
Overwatch reveals its newest hero
Doctrine is a stealth support character with drones that heal comrades who’s arriving in season 5. He’s basically a vampire. The hero trial, however, starts today. Blizzard showed off the hero with a new cinematic short.
Diablo 4 is (officially) coming to Switch 2 next week
The long-rumored port is dropping on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid console on September 15 alongside the new season.

Reign of the Black Empire is Hearthstone‘s next expansion
It arrives October 20. Perhaps even more importantly, the Monk class will come to the card game for the first time in 2027.
World of Warcraft gives its first look at The Last Titan
A reveal trailer for Eclipse was followed by fans’ first look at what’s coming to the MMO in 2027 in its 12th expansion, which caps of the Worldsoul Saga. And what’s coming is a giant-ass robot with huge laser canons.
A new campaign comes to Warcraft 3 over two decades later
Warcraft 3 Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom will follow The Fall of Lordaeron. Blizzard is promising 30 hours of content alongside a new graphics mode and the addition of a new unit. Oh, and it’s out today.
World of Warcraft Forever is “Classic Plus” and coming this year
This new approach to vanilla WoW is arriving on November 4 and will explore alternate paths for some of the MMO’s most iconic moments, beginning around the events of year one. It’ll exist alongside regular and Classic, so there’s three WoWs now, I guess!
