Fable‘s main story length has officially been revealed, and gamers are largely satisfied with the runtime. Playground Games and Xbox recently shared more details about Fable‘s story at Gamescom 2026, including how long players can expect to take to beat it. With how drastically different RPG lengths can be, knowing the length of Fable‘s story ahead of time can help players manage their expectations.

After being delayed out of 2026, Fable will finally be released on February 23, 2027, making it the first new entry in the franchise in over a decade. As such, there are some high expectations for the fantasy RPG to meet, including the amount of content contained within its total runtime. Luckily, fans looking for a solid amount to do within Fable‘s world of Albion will be happy to hear that the game’s main story length is quite sizable, and that’s just a slice of the total pie.

Fable Will Take Roughly 15-20 Hours to Beat the Main Story

Revealed during a Q&A session at Gamescom and reported by Polygon, Fable‘s associate game director Will Kennedy said that it will take players around 15-20 hours to complete the main quest. If this number is accurate, it would make this game the longest in the Fable franchise, even if it doesn’t compare to other fantasy RPGs like The Elder Scrolls franchise or behemoths like Baldur’s Gate 3. For comparison, the past entries in the Fable series have had main stories that lasted less than 15 hours total.

  • Fable (2004) — 12.5 Hours
  • Fable 2 (2008) — 13 Hours
  • Fable 3 (2010) — 13.5 Hours

In a post reacting to this news on the Fable subreddit, gamers responded with generally favorable opinions on the campaign length. As a comment by user Grouchy-Fill1675 puts it, “As an almost 40-year-old husband and father, this doesn’t bother me in the slightest.” Other users shared this sentiment, expressing that a 15-20-hour story for an RPG is perfect when super-long games like Persona 5 and Baldur’s Gate 3 can get overwhelming. Other users pointed out that with Fable‘s morality system, this length can essentially be doubled for one good and one evil playthrough.

However, there is much more to Fable than just the main campaign, and Kennedy goes on to explain that there is another 15-20 hours of side content for players to engage with. As an open-world RPG, Fable allows players to get lost in the world of Albion and explore every nook and cranny to their heart’s content, expanding the game’s runtime by as much or as little as they’d like. Fable will also feature a life system that essentially makes the game limitless depending on how much players want to commit to roleplaying within this world.

Although Fable may not be the massive RPG experience that some fans are hoping for, a modest story length with an equal helping of side content seems to be sitting right with the majority of fans. The quality of Fable‘s story and gameplay is likely going to be the difference-maker more so than the quantity. And with the return of fan-favorite villain Jack of Blades along with immersive features like over 1000 romanceable NPCs, players will likely be able to squeeze more than enough quality hours of gameplay out of Fable to make the game worth the purchase.
