Fans of Fallout are praising the recent release of Fallout 4‘s next-gen update 2. The first next-gen patch for Fallout 4 was announced around two years ago and released on April 25 of this year. When the first next-gen update was released, players were underwhelmed, and fans pointed out many issues. Bethesda then released a second patch fixing issues with the next-gen update on May 13.
Bethesda’s first next-gen update for Fallout 4 was met with mixed reviews. PC players found that some ultra-widescreen resolutions were not supported, leaving a stretched view on some monitors. Fallout’s VATS feature was also reported to be broken, as players found that they could target enemies behind cover, and the accuracy of their shots did not seem as effective as before.

Bethesda released a second next-gen update for Fallout 4 on May 13. As pointed out by Pure Xbox, this was met with praise from fans on Reddit, who claimed that several issues had been fixed. The PS5 got increased draw distance, HDR was adjusted, and more. An issue with exclamation points appearing in the projectiles that makeshift weapons fired was also fixed.
The second next-gen update also improved the quality settings on Xbox Series X and S. Players previously complained that the two performance modes for Fallout 4 looked too similar. In a Reddit post that compared the two updates, fans praised the changes made to these settings. Some fans mentioned that the change was like “night and day.”
With the PS5 load times for Fallout 4 reduced significantly, new armors, weapon bundles, bug fixes, and performance modes, fans have given the next-gen updates praise overall. Some fans suggested that future next-gen consoles should have similar settings to take advantage of newer hardware. Other fans suggested that more games should have an update like Fallout 4‘s instead of a separate next-gen purchase for newer consoles.
Fallout 4’s Next Gen Update 2 Fixed Many Issues Pointed Out By Fans
The next-gen updates were not met with a lot of praise from modders, however, as these updates broke all mods previously available to use since December 2019. A popular DLC-sized mod coming to Fallout 4, called Fallout: London, was delayed after the release of the next-gen update would break it. For most Bethesda games, mods will only work on a specific version of a game, forcing modders to make changes for them to work with the latest updates. The mod is still expected to be coming soon, with the development team FOLON still working on Fallout: London as of this time of writing.
