Fallout 4 Players Should Prepare to Say Goodbye on November 10

Fallout 4 Players Should Prepare to Say Goodbye on November 10

The release of Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition will likely be both a blessing and a curse for many PC players. One of the benefits of playing Fallout 4 on PC is the robust modding scene that is available to fans, allowing them to fine-tune their experience or completely overhaul how Fallout 4 is played with the right choice of mods. Although Bethesda has largely embraced the modding scene and even introduced its own curated selection via the Creation Club, each new update tends to be a nightmare for modders and mod users alike.

It’s the unfortunate expectation at this point that a new Fallout 4 update will inevitably break some mods that players have installed on their game. In particular, overhaul mods that rely on heavy scripting are the ones most frequently broken by major Fallout 4 updates, and with the Anniversary Edition being one of the biggest the game has seen in years, it wouldn’t be surprising to see many of these same mods broken once again. As such, Fallout 4 players should anticipate having their mods broken when updating the game on November 10.

Fallout 4’s November 10 Update Will Likely Break Some Mods

After 10 years, it’s not uncommon for some Fallout 4 players to have hundreds of mods running on their game at a time. When an update of this caliber drops, it can be a headache to get them up and running again with the Fallout 4 Script Extender that most players rely on for running their mods. Additionally, in Fallout 4‘s Anniversary Edition update, Creation Club will be replaced with the Verified Creator Program, which allows professional and amateur developers to sell paid Creations without Bethesda’s involvement. This could mean that some previous Creations that Fallout 4 players have installed could experience hiccups with the transition to the new system as well.

Bethesda is Disabling Fallout 4 Creation Club and Mods in Anticipation of the Anniversary Update

With the launch date for Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition just around the corner on November 10, Bethesda has issued a warning to players about the status of their mods. From November 6-10, Fallout 4 Mods and Creation Club will be offline as they undergo maintenance in preparation for the changes coming with the Anniversary update. Players won’t be able to download or upload any mod content through these services, but can still access and change their mod load order if necessary to launch the game.

Fallout 4 players worried about losing access to their mods can disable auto-updates to prevent the Anniversary Edition update from affecting them.

As part of Bethesda’s pre-release warning for the Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition update, it’s recommended that players specifically disable any mods that affect the game’s main menu, as this update will require adjustments to that screen and could potentially break any mods in use. Additionally, UI and HUD Scaling updates are planned, potentially breaking any mods that affect Fallout 4‘s UI.

Last year’s next-gen update for Fallout 4 also proved that the game’s modding scene is prone to fractures, as the update split the modding community by altering the game’s compiler/runtime and BA2 archive headers. As a result, modders have had to choose to develop for either the pre-patch or post-patch version of Fallout 4 for the past year, and it’s possible a third splinter will be created with the Anniversary Edition update. While there will be plenty of new content to celebrate when Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition releases, players with heavily modded games will want to brace for the headache of their mods potentially breaking.
